What Is Toyota Oil?

Not a fault just an observation. I just had a service and had Castrol Edge in from the previous service, when the engine was cold I had a ticking noise (sounded a bit like piston slap).

I just had a Toyota Service and since the service this noise seems to have disappeared, I asked The Toyota dealer what oil they put in, the answer, Toyota Oil, 5 -30 synthetic, not the answer I was looking for. Toyota do not make oil so which company provides it?

TGMO (Toyota Genuine Motor Oil) as you say is not made by Toyota, but it is made to a spec, supplied by Toyota, from I suspect whoever gives the best deal on the open market. For a long period it was made by ESSO, but these days, the COSHH sheets only give Toyota Europe as the point of contact and not the manufacturer

So in short, I think it is made to a specification by any one of the large suppliers

I emailed Toyota Ireland after reading this, and they telephoned me back yesterday. Says that the oil is manufactured to Toyota's specifications by Chevron.

I must have a look at a bottle of havoline and see does it look like toyota's...

just buy some 5/30 semi or fully synthetic oil

the req'd spec is in the hand book....but its all a load of nonsense in the long run
