Hey as u can tell by my name, i really wanna get myself a toyota, i'm currently driving a 1.8 clio 16v, which isnt without its charms, but i want the genuine sports car, rather than a hot hatch.... this way at least i'm used to expensive parts :)

I've been getting quotes from insurance companies to begin with, but i'm having some troubles, becuase the companies dont all list the same varieties of the MR2

could someone inform me of the differences between and the insurance groups of the:

GT T-Bar Turbo

&

Mr2 Turbo

or are they the same thing in the eyes of the insurance companies, i take it both of them are imported, is there a version with a turbo that isnt imported

Thanks alot for ur help

Matt.

All turbos are called:

GTS T-Bar Turbo (slightly lighter sporty version i.e. sometimes various options missing e.g. Air Con)

GTS Coupe Turbo (as above but no t-bar)

GT T- Bar Turbo (all toys)

GT Turbo (all toys no t-bar)

Rev 3's had new engine (I think 1993/1994 onwards.) Various changes including new top end, larger injectors, map sensor instead of Air Flow Metre, new ECU, removal of VSV.

Basically rev 3 engines can be brought up to higher power levels (up to 300bhp) with just a Unichip modification (remaps the engine timings). The earlier 3S-GTE can be brought up to around 260 - 270 with a Unichip. Later engines also cope better in cold weather, limiting boost levels less than the original 3S-GTE whose VSV puts the car into safe mode (7psi boost) rather too often!

Around £550. Remember insurance premiums will more than likely increase too.......

I've had a few quotes for a GT T-bar Turbo, I'm 21. 1years Ncb = £1500!

its a bit steep, but i'd be paying the same for a crappy escort rs2000, so if u look at it like that its worth it :D

cheers for the info lads

Just trying to keep your eyes open. It's practically essential to check this stuff out with insurance companies before proceeding. THese mods aren't cheap and it would be an awful pity if you couldn't insure the car after shelling out the money. On the bright side, you'll be 25 soon.... for me that meant premiums went down a lot :). I can now insure a Tubby for £800 fully comp - not bad at all :).

Matt - £1500 isn't bad at all, though it is at the upper end of the scale and at this level I doubt they would tolerate any modifications (I work in the insurance industry and know what turns out underwriters white!!!). You may get insurance, but it would have to be with a specialist e.g. Dorset, Adrian Flux and I suspect the premium would be around £2000 +. They're damn fast standard, you won't be dissappointed :).

B) Totally agree with Dame... Infact, I wet myself everytime I floor it (or just half floor it). It is a REAL BEAST.

.. But I've been told I will get over it in 6 months... I'm still counting...
