T180 Reverse Camera

Hi,

Sorry if I am going over old ground but just wanted to clear a few things up, I am picking my T180 up on thursday and want the reverse camera sorting out, firstly my Toyota dealer says when my reg is put in the reverse camera is not applicable and they seem pretty unknowlegable on the matter.

From what I read on here the T180 shoulf have the wiring already there, whats the easiest way to confirm this and can any say for sure if the wiring will be there in mine.

When I go on Toyota's reverse camera installation instructions they give a part number of PZ473-XO140-00, my Toyota dealer confirmed this as a rear camera but could not say if it would fit mine, the cost is £120 which I will pay to have the proper one but could do with knowing if its the correct one.

One hand says just order it the other says wait till you get the car. Thing is its in at the dealers thursday for a few extras fiting and hope they would do it at the same time.

Any help would be great.

Cheers,

Jason

Welcome to the club.

Shcm has the instructions pinned in the tech info and tips section at the top of the RAV page. However, he has been tidying up by the looks of things and moved his photo's in photobucket. I'm sure if you ask him he will add new links

Unfortunately, the missing photos were links to JHRC's photobucket account not mine, so if he's moved them, there's not a lot I can do about it, as I don't have copies. You could try PMing JHRC - we haven't seen him for quite a while.

I suspect the dealer will want to deny all knowledge of the camera as it wasn't officially fitted to the T180/XT5 in the UK (well at least not the early ones. Later ones???).

I'm fairly confident the wiring will be there. No easy way other than taking the back door trim off and looking for the connector, which, looking at the interior trim side, is to the right, behind one of the metal braces. You can also tell from the headunit connections, but you have to know what you are looking for. The rear door connection, is almost the definitive thing.

Might be able to find/confirm a part number later.

Later ones definitely did. I had a mate who had one.

Original camera part is shown as 86790-42010, which is probably £££££££££££.

I suspect there is more chance of the new part working than not, but it's not easy to see from the installation instructions which connector is fitted to the camera assembly.

Wow just got a price of that part number, £550, dont think I will bother, the car is with Toyota now for some bits fiting and the fitter (Master Technician) says there is no wiring for the camera fitted to the car and he does not need to look for it. I will have the panel off myself to check and go from there, what tool is best to get it off?

On a plus note the fitter has caught the front tire with the ramp and damaged it and are now fitting me a new tire, bonus.

Check your wheel inside and out for graunch marks before you accept it back

Well, perhaps he is right, but I have the virtual smell of a cattle farmyard in my nostrils. Probably best to let it go, but I'd have been inclined to ask him when the VIN cutoff was for not fitting that part of the wiring harness.

The Draper trim removal tool is usually OK. Anchs is using one in his 90deg check-strap tutorial, which also shows how to get the rear door trim off:

post-110805-0-39064800-1313180383_thumb.Seems you guys know more than the said master technician, I whipped the back door cover off today and what do you know, right where all the pictures I have seen on here sits a 6 pin connector that has 2 black wires 1 red and 1 white wire going to it.

Will order a camera soon an attach it one way or another.

Thanks for your help.

Not wanting to sound sarcastic, but "Quelle Surprise!" as they don't say round here. :D.

I expect the dealer was just fobbing you off, as installing the camera would have been slightly "non standard" for this vintage of vehicle. I wouldn't be surprised if it boils down to something like they don't have a "job sheet" or standard time booking for doing it on a 2007 T180.
