Hi guys i have a 2006 2.0d4d avensis and only get 38-42mpg on motorway runs i have it serviced with toyota parts but not in the toyota dealers.i buy all the proper kit for it and just service it myself does it need an ecu upgrade as ive heard about that sorta thing any help will do folks and thanx.

That is low. Firstly dont go on car trip computer, used fuely (see signature below my posting) to record your brim to brim mileages and fuel used.

Also, clean egr valve and MAF sensors, and reset your ECU to reset the whole settings and see how it goes.

I do all these things with major service.

I'd second all the advice here. I bought a d4d a few months ago and cleaned the MAF

and ran a can of cleaner through and I get 50+ mpg combined actual fuel used.

I think the MAF had the biggest effect. Cleaned it with a £3 can of electrical cleaner

from Halfords.

Incidentally, how do you reset the ECU?
