Aygo Go Tomtom - Text To Speech

I have recently purchased an Aygo Go with the free TomTom satnav.

The bluetooth connectivity is via the Tom Tom and this works well except that although I have enabled it to read out text messages but when I select mobile phone - read/write message - the options on the next screen are all greyed out.

Options are:

Read inbox messages

Read outbox messages

Write messages

Write location message

Does anyone else use this facility successfully?

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

What kind of phone are you trying to use this with?

I have a Bry handsfree kit that can read SMS and email, but It won't do so with my iPhone, as the iPhone doesn't support

the feature. Just to make sure it works I whipped out my 4 year old Sony Ericsson Z520i and it worked at the first try.

So it might just be down to your phone, not the TomTom...

I think that it only works with the older phones, if you go onto the tom tom website, I think it waa tom tom, and find the model of satnav then there is a list of compatable phones and what works with what function.

Thanks for your response. It is not compatible for sms message to receive or send turning speech to text. It appears that not many phones are.

I wonder if someone has written an app that will do it?

I know the HTC Desire does have some issues on syncing. For a fact it does NOT work

with several models of Kenwood radio's that use Parrot-technology for the bluetooth.

On android there might be apps that DO support this functionality, with the iPhone it's impossible,

as Apple does not give 3rd-party Apps access to the SMS and email databases for security reasons.
