Hi all,

Just recently purchased a connects2 aux in adapter for my 56 plate XT4. (The one with the small 12 pin adapter) Fitted it and pressed the disc button twice but nothing happens, am I doing something wrong or is it not compatible. Removed all wires from back of radio to simulate Battery being removed but nothing. Can anyone help?

Richard

Hi Richard,

what device have you got connected to the adaptor? Please excuse the following if it sounds rude/condescending: You are unlikely to see anything on the headunit unless you have a device connected i.e. it almost certainly won't display the adaptor itself, only the device connected to it.

Maybe not strictly correct I'm afraid Chris.

If it's an aux adaptor, with just "line in" connections, then it should, in theory, probably show up as "CD1 Track 1" regardless.

If they are still using "phono" input sockets, it can't really know if anything is connected (unless they've upgraded their design), so it has to do CD emulation regardless.

If they've changed the something like a 3.5mm socket, then, yes, there is a possibility it could tell if anything was inserted in the socket.

Every unit has to register itself on the AVCLAN regardless at "ignition on" anyway.

While these adapters certainly work with earlier Toyota radios, early versions of these C2 aux adapters don't appear to be compatible with the 4.3 satnav. I'm monitored the AVCLAN with one connected and it does not understand all of the initial AVCLAN "handshaking" with the satnav. As a result, the audio get chopped out after about 5 seconds of play.

I've not tried a C2 aux adapter with a "normal" 4.3 radio though, so I don't know what happens with such a setup, though I do wonder about incompatibility.

These adapters used to have an optional (I think it was bus ground) connection on a lucar spade/socket. Might be worth trying both variations of that, if it still has it. You'll need to power off the radio and on again at each attempt. Usually a Battery disconnect is not necessary, because as I said above, the headunit asks each unit on the AVCLAN to identify (register) itself everytime the radio is powered up "ignition on".

Thanks for your replies,

Yes, it is the normal 4.3 radio 6 CD autochanger, not a sat nav unit. Maybe send this particular set up back and try another brand? Didn't want to pay too much as I may be sellimng the car soon, just wanted to listen to my ipod through my stereo, not bothered about it charging which is why I have gone down the 3.5mm aux in jack route. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I've just bought a Belkin "Tune FM" transmitter for use in my 4.2 VVTi 3-door. It's a dinky little thing which you simply plug into bottom of the i-Pod & then tune it to an unused waveband on FM on the radio & whey-hey, i-Pod tunes on the stereo! Now I've tried these things in the past & they were crap and as a result I was going to wire in a jack/socket/aux thingey to the stereo but I decided to do a bit of research first before giving myself a lot of grief and perhaps further aggravation (like you've described) because I really only wanted something fairly simple. Good write-ups on this unit on internet & I had a chat with the chap in Halfords who told me that he, like me, had bad previous experiences but had good results with this unit.

So I gave it a try and it is excellent - one of the best £29.99's I've spent in a long time. I've since bought a Brod-it mounting kit and a mini-USB which plugs into the bottom of the Tune FM and charges the i-Pod as you drive/listen. It's got two programmable memories so you can select two wavebands - handy if, like me, you regularly commute long distance to an area with a different range of allocated wavebands. You simply switch to the other one as necessary. It also has an adjustable bass booster which gives a greater tone adjustment range when used with the i-Pod control & the radio bass/treble controls.

I'm really impressed, If you want something simple but that works, this is it. And if you buy from Halfords & keep packaging intact, you can always return it if you ain't happy.
