Just about to pick up my first prius (2008 Spirit). Heard something about pulse and glide in relation to maximum MPG, Does it work and how easy is it to operate ?

I think that's the most comprehensive guide, it would have been the link I would have posted too.

I'd get used to the car first, depending on how quickly or slowly you adapt to a different car, I'd give it at least a few days, or possibly weeks before thinking about how to improve your FE.

PS Make sure the tyre pressures are correct as the some dealers don't seem to know!

I find the cut off for staying 'in the black' is 46mph not 41 as mentioned in that tutorial

Do the Americans have to suffer the same level of over-read inaccuracy built-in into their speedometers as we do in Europe?

My understanding is that they do and for the same reasons as for us, but not sure if it is to the same degree.

I was thinking the degree of inaccuracy in the speedometer might explain the differences in the mph limit of EV mode, but the difference is probably too large to be explained by that.

I don't know the reason why, I can guess, but I've never seen an official explanation, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least bit if any scientific advice had been dismissed in favour of a political one.
