Rear Anti Roll Bar Link Replacement

Hi all, had the car into Toyota today as we kept hearing a 'clunk' from the rear when turning left hand corners and braking under load. The diagnosis is that the rear osr anti roll bar link has snapped and also the bushes are shot. The price quoted seems quite steep at approx £370 so tempted to have a go myself but not sure if it is an easy DIY job or not?

Any advice / help appreciated as always!! :thumbsup:

Odd. I paid a bit to import a rear anti-roll bar for my 2 1994 cars as they are not fitted with a rear anti-roll bar.

And I'm not aware of a later change 4 years later to fit a bar at the back!

Front anti-roll bar ... yes. Back.... no.

More likely the suspension bushes are worn, but I wouldn't trust a dealer to tell you that.

Its a bit early here in sunny Scotland, but things I can think of checking would be the rear springs.... has one broken ? When was the car last MOT'd? How many miles has it done?

Check the rear hub nut is torqued to the correct setting.

Hi thanks for your post, I have checked today and the link is indeed snapped, it bolts through the lower wishbone and on the nsr you can see it protruding through and on the osr it is not visible and I can move it freely so looks like the dealer diagnosed correctly.

It is interesting you mention the rear hub nut though - when I was investigating today i was wondering how the hell would you remove / tighten this nut? It looks like a special tool puts an indent into it (used to be a simple split pin many moons ago) and this begs the question how do you remove the indent to move / tighten the nut??? I tried to open it up with a screwdriver today but the nut material is solid.... :ffs:

Hi. Mine has snapped too! I think its called a drop link? I was getting a knock every now and then when turning. When I looked under the rear of the car, one of the linkages had snapped. The other was clearly still fixed to the main cross beam. Luckily I had a after market warranty who said because only one had snapped that they would cover the costs of fixing it. Unfortunately it is being done at a vw dealership which is where i got the car 18 months ago. They weren't sure if they could do it as they usually only work on VW's. Just waiting for the part to arrive now so we will soon see. My only concern was is it still safe to drive and could I cause further damage??
