2007 Verso T180 Loses Power

My 2007 Verso T180 Diesel 2.2 is losing power. When pulling away from junctions the bite just isnt there anymore, I hadnt really noticed this so much until towing a caravan. The caravan is well within all the weight limits etc and always towed well in the past however this time after about a 40 mile tow it lost all power. You can restart the car and all is well for about 3-4 mins etc. Taking the caravan off the car works ok again. Its been suggested a diesel filter may be blocked or blocking and is usually cleaned as part of a service but Im not a petrol head so clueless.

Question is what do you guys think the issue could be as I cant prove the fault to a garage easily and im out of warranty and find the Toyota dealerships hard going especially as i have the D-Cat model which Toyota refuse to believe has appaling fuel consumption and almost half the brochure quotes!

I have a 55 plate Verso T180 - not sure if yours is the same revision. I had the same symptoms and full Toyota history. I've had the engine changed twice fully this year for free due to the problem. So basically you should really insist.

I was told by the service techs that Toyota HQ have changed the solution recently (on the second engine change) as they used to ship out the engine parts to the garage but now they ship the whole engine pre-built. Seems that they have issues.
