Avensis D4D 2.2 Doesn't Start!

Hi guys. I would be very grateful if anyone could help me out here. My 2005 2.2 D4D doesn't fire up. I have cracked the pipes from the commmon rail and fuel is only drizzling out so I gathered that it was my fuel pump. When checking out the fuel pump, I noticed that the solenoid wasn't activating when the ignition is switched on. I checked the soleniod by dissconnecting it and feeding it with 12v and it is fucntional. So i checked the voltage across the plug for the signal from the ECU and I am getting a very low voltage (0.24V) upon ignition.

Do you think my Ecu is gone? I just wanna make sure it is before I fork out to replace it.

Thanks in advance.

if you have someone cranking the engine.

tap the sensor lightly with a small hammer.

see if that starts the car.

hi thanks for the tip. Do you mean the Fuel Rail Pressure sensor on the end of the common rail? I am struggling to find a replacement sensor as toyota doesnt sell them seperately. 2.2 are quite rare at breakers and was wondering if a 2.0 sensor will be ok?

Look to the right of the picture,

you see 2 black pipes, on the left you see the long silver thing that will have a 2 or 3 core cable attached.

That is the fuel pump solenoid. This solenoid is a dealer part. If this is faulty or sticky it can stop the pump from presuring the rail.

If you take this component off the pump, you cant clean or repair. It is a sealed unit.

hi, its definately not the solenoid as it is functional. I am just not getting a 12v feed upon switching the ignition on. althought i do get around 8vs on crank.

i presume the task of a normal pressure sensor is the same either on 2.0 or on 2.2 ltr engine -- this sensor does measure pressure only and must be calibrated on the constant rail pressure. the pressure is pressure dispite of pumps capacity into the rail. Try to check with Parts King on here may be he has got that for you or even he might to consult you. Cheers/Igor
