Pub Figures Of A Chipped T180 And A Few Other Questions

Hello all,

Just wondering if someone could inform me of the pub figures of a chipped T180, as im looking for a 4x4 that has performance but also has the MPG - i considered a Forester STI but not fancying the fuel bill associated.

Im aware that it probably wont make the figures a FSTI does but then im not interested in a car like that if the MPG isnt good (if you know what i mean), and feel the T180 could potentially tick the boxes.

Im also searching the forums and have found issues concerning the engine (but like most internet sources, it seems a bigger deal than it is) and peoples complaints concerning the run flat tyres. Apart from that is there anything else likely to go wrong?

Another question i have is that, at a certain mileage/age, is anything expensive needing to be checked?

Thanks

The tuning box we sell for T180 has been proven to take the BHP to 212, however we set them a little lower than that as the power tends to be on or off  Torque is improved from 400 to 470 NM It is the torque that is important on a diesel as you may well know

Hello Kingo,

Yeah ive seen that and would probably get one from you (if i decide the t180 is for me, local dealer has just sold theirs so didnt get a td), but just wondered if anyone knew the actual speed performance increases?

Or wont it alter the 60 time but be more about the mid-range/in gear accelaration?

Thanks

There will be a slight speed performance difference but its a diesel, its the extra torque (grunt) that matters and that is what is most noticable, not speed

I have driven Big Kevins car with the chip fitted and can say in all honesty that its a major improvement over the original car.. I have the T180 The Big Guy has the SR 180 and the chip is now at the top of the wish list...

The engine problem is a real consideration on the 2AD engined cars and the T80 has this engine.. I have just last week had an engine and a few other parts replaced under warranty by Westlands Toyota Worcester ( Westlands are a fantastic bunch of very professional People !!)Also Many Members on here have had similar work completed.. So the engine problem is real and present .. It has to be said though that Toyota are replacing the engines without hassle if problems occur...

Runflats..... MMMmmmmm A complete pain in the ***** but would definitely not put Me off the car at all as its just the best thing to cut them off and replace them with normal tyres when they wear out. Then carry a repair kit and make sure You are a paid up member of the RAC or similar.

All cars have problems.. Few Manufacturers offer the back up that Toyota does.... HTH

Wee Charlie.

Are toyota replacing them even if there out of warrenty or would one have to pay for the work? Ive read on here that their not acknowledging it as a recall issue... Is it possible to buy warrenty from Toyota if brought outside of their network or does it have to come from them?

Would you say a large percentage have gone wrong or just a large percentage of the posters on here reporting problems (which obv doesnt equate to the 2AD population).

Like you said, the tyre problems easily solved.

Slowly narrowing the list down, now its between this (180 with chip), Mazda CX-7 (bit thirsty for what i want but...) and a few others ill eventually dismiss.

Dont suppose anyones interested in a Honda Integra Type R DC5 are they? lol

The warranty on the 2AD engine has been extended to seven Years or around 112.000 miles.. Toyota are under No obligation to recall the cars fitted with the 2AD engine as it is not a safety related item. And of course not all the engines are affected..

Take a look around the Forum this subject has been covered in great length !!!

Mate The Rav 4 in T180 form is an absolutely brilliant car with a very high specification and an awesome all round vehicle. .....

Totally agree with Charlie. The T180 is a cracking vehicle.

I have mine chipped & it makes a huge difference to the grunt that is on offer as per kingo's comment & the fuel economy.

As for your DC5, check out some of the honda forums as there are always people after them.

We've got a 56 plate T180 and it's a great car. Pretty quick although a bit thirstier than i imagined from the published figures. I'm trying to improve the mpg at the moment with various engine fuel treatments but be prepared for 27mpg minimum i'd say. Also we don't have the engine issue yet. No loss of oil or anything else to suggest there's anything wrong although i did recently clean out the EGR valve which was sooted up. I'm certainly going to keep an eye on it though before the 7 years comes along.

Only down points for me are it has a heavy clutch and doesn't brake brilliantly however it's a heavy car so suppose that's probably normal. I'm used to driving smaller cars and leaving braking to the last moment at roundabouts!

If your front discs are looking dull due to depositing of brake material [a common problem with earlier 4.3s] it might be worth replacing the front brake pads.

My discs were getting corroded and needed skimming. The new Toyota pads seem to be more abrasive and keep the discs clean. Braking has improved no end.

Concur with Davrav....changed my pads and the very dirty discs now like mirrors and braking improved 28.73% at a guess....deffo worth doing, and I used non-Toyota replacements as a wee protestation re them telling me that ***** that built up on my discs was "NORMAL".....

Big Kev

I'd have your brake fluid checked mate, it absorbes moisture and should be changed every 2-3 years, the more moisture in it, the less efficient your brakes etc become. Based on my car I'd never have said the T180 has a heavy clutch or poor brakes. My GTO on the other hand, the clutch is that heavy the hydraulic master cylinder is vacuum servo assisted!

Hello people,

Thanks for the replies, bit more info for me

however, im still unsure what im going to do as im quite tempted now to buy an '04 3 Door 2ltr Rav 4 as a winter run a bout so researching into that as well (t180 if the Honda sells for what i want, 3 door 04 if not), and have learnt from another forum about a MR2 Turbo engine swap which could be interesting, however that'd be another project in its own sense.
