Not sure I understand, was there some failure so they paid out? I always assumed the car was still yours though. I have never claimed. My father did on his celica, they paid out in the end, small claims etc, but he still retained the car

The car is a total loss

Dave min,

One would presume that your settlement FAR outweighs that what which the insurance company have quoted you for you to "retain" the vehicle. Rightly or wrongly, I thought the insurance folks acquired title on paying out the claim.

Get that checked oot matey, and if the car is indeed still yours, as you can see by the offer from your insurance peeps, it's still a saleable commodity....I think, though, thou art on t'plums......

Big Kev

Yeah. They have paid out to the value of the car to replace. £12k ish... As such I guess they have taken ownership of it by default. Might check the contract and see if this is the case.

Hmmmmm

They pay you out and they DO own the title, you cant have the payout and the car, it doesnt work like that. If you want to salvage the car back off them, you will need to pay them for it. There is a huge business in salvage these days, they are entitled to charge you if you want it back

Spot on Kingo, I would think that if you want to buy it back off them, then you seriously want to consider if you can make more than the £3000 they are charging you on spares sold on from it. I myself couldn,t be bothered with the hassle, and you probably won,t sell everything and stll have to pay a scrapper to get shut of whats left.

Regards Clare

Very true Kingo......scrap metal is seriously high at the moment....i work in a plumbers merchant,we have had two attempted break in's in the last 2 months  both for copper ,boilers & hot water cylinders.

The t*****s even tried passing a small child through the port holes in our shutter doors to get the tube through....all caught on CCTV.but they were wearing hoodies..:censor:

We have now covered the port holes with steel plate (both sides)..let them try & get through that..:D

Our sister merchant in the next town, had their wall cut out with a disc cutter..just to get to the tube,my colleages there returned to work the next day, only to find a hole in the wall...:o and 3 tonnes of copper gone

Its very scary indeed

We now have to remove catalytic convertors from all 4 x 4's as they are easy to crawl under and just cut off the exhaust, we have had three seperate thefts, all on CCTV, mainly kids who are paid by the local travelling community to steal them on their behalf and send them for scrap. One lad was caught and confessed  They caused thousands of £££ worth of damage the little scroats

Kingo

At the salvage company and said my final farewell to ol' KevRav. He did us proud....

Couldn't get the tow bar off... Must have been welded on!!

Did alright out of it tho. Managed to get the check strap, lock nuts and spare tyre. Changed the centre consol armrest too as the new one was a plasticy looking leather where as the previous a lovely stitched matt leather one.

All done and very happy with the new one. Not got a name yet tho... Any suggestions?
