hey guys, i was wondering what all of the possible ways to find out if my motor is a 5efhe are. i ordered one from japan and got it installed, but it looks like a 5efe. it came with the 4 into 2 exhaust manifold and a really tiny distributor, but those were my only clues to it being the 5efhe. it says nothing on the top of the intake plenum, manifold, whatever. i just need help figuring it out. thanks a ton guys

I'll take some photos of a 5E-FHE for you tomorrow.

i have seen a few pictures, i was just wondering if there were any other ways to tell if it is a 5efhe instead of a 5efe. it would be cool if you posted the pics anyway :) thanks.

i'm guessing the only way is to do a compression test. the stock 5efe is at 9.4:1 compression ratio, whereas the 5efhe is at a 9,8:1 compression ratio. if you have a friend with a standard paseo maybe you can buy a compression tester(40$@ autozone) and compare whether they are the same or if yours is higher.

5E-FHE has different distributor to 5E-FE. I believe...

Pics of a 5E-FHE soon

the 5efhe can use a 5efe distributor. most of us here in the us must resort to using the paseo distributor for the engine to run. because they never offered the external coil here in the United States.

Got plenty of coil and ignitor packs too!

d*mn u got everything!...wow..i know a couple people on the tercelonline.com board that can use ur help. would you mind if i pointed them in ur direction?

i know what distributor you are talking about, but couldnt that one fit (theoretically) on a normal 5efe including the headers? im just curious because my motor looks a little more like a 5efe than the pics i have seen of a 5efhe, but it came with the tiny JDM distributor and the 4into 2 header. im still unsure, but the compression tester thing is a good idea. how does one go about figuring out the ratio? the 9.4:1 ratio from a compression tester? all of the testers i have seen measure it in PSI. let me know how to do this, thnx for all your help guys ;), appreciate it!

P.S.I=pounds per square inch (correct me if iim wrong)

the equation to measure the volume of a cylyinder is "pi x radius x radius x height". use the bore and stroke to determine the volume.

then convert from mm to inches

The Calculation of an engine's compression ratio ( C.R. ) is based on the formula :

CR= (SV+CV)/CV

SV= Swept Volume for one cylinder in CC's= Bore x Bore x stroke x 12.9

CV= Clearence Volume for one cylinder in CC's= HV minus EDV plus DV plus GV

HV= Head Volume (measured in CC's)= Best if measured because head volume vaires

EDV= Effective Dome Volume (measured in CC's)= Dome volume minus valve relief and/or dish volume

DV= Deck Volume clearance (piston to deck) (measured in CC's) = Bore x Bore x Deck Height x 12.9

GV= Gasket Volume (measured in CC's)= Gasket Bore x Gasket Bore x Compression Thickness x (12.9 or enter known gasket volume)

edit: Cubic Inch Displacement measurement

Bore x Bore x stroke x .7854 x 4(cylinders)

Thought this should be in H-T to be archived if someone needs these formulas. If anyone have anymore usefull formulas please feel free to post them.

im hoping thinfo will help you.

damned useful formulas. how does one measure the stroke and bore of their motors? i would assume removing the cylinder head cover would be a good start to measuring the bore, but i dont know about stroke...

PSI is pounds per square inch. thanks for all your help entitiy, ser.co.uk you get those pics yet, or have any info that i might need?

Pictures in an hour or two.

Bore and stroke is the same 5E-FE and 5E-FHE. Should be listed on web somewhere

THANK YOU !!! now this motor looks a lot like mine. my motor, however is missing the plate on the intake plenum. is that a removable peice?

hey vyper, its me kene....if u need anymore formulas like head volumne ect. let me know. i'll try my best to help. but in my opinion the easiest method is find a friend or go to a toyota dealer and ask them what the measurement would be on a 5efe for a compression test. then test yours. if yours is a bump giher then a stoick 5efe, then that would be enuff proof for me.

I think so. I've never tried taking it off...
