4.2 Performance Engine Conversion

Hello,

As im having trouble selling my Honda im considering buying a 4.2 as a winter run-a-round with potential to keep it as a long termer. Having searched on here i see Bothwell has 'turbo'd' and Parkwood a V6 but both on a 4.1 - which searching on google brings up other similar conversions but all on a 4.1

I know i maybe getting ahead of myself but i just wondered what engine conversions are available to the 4.2?

Would a Celica engine just slot in per se or...?

Im also aware that id end up not achieving the mpg i would like should i have the monies for a T180 but...

Thanks

Basically you can fit any engine to anything, within reason. How difficult it is will dictate the price.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the gearbox on a 4.2 is the same as the 4.1 - if thats the case then a fairly simple swap can be done with a 3sgte engine.

Generally you would need the engine complete with sensors etc; its ecu and its wiring harness.

I haven't read about anyone doing a change on the 4.2, but I can't think why not. Interesting !!

Like i said, id need to buy one first but im doing a bit of research into it all.

Id have to reread your build threads concerning the engine just slotting in but im wondering if the 1.8 SC VVTI from the Lotus would go - now not know the engine bay size/dims not that of the engine, do you think itd be an 'easy' conversion or would it be cheaper to potentially muck around with the existing 2.0 internals and s/c that?

Truth be told, i prob would undertake the conversion until next year but is something id like to do project wise

Comes down to what you want out of the car / what you would like to do.

Theres not that much you can do to the vvti engine as far as I know other than just tinker with it. If you do a search in this forum on the vvti engine, you will pick up some stuff that people have done.

Its easy enough to go down the route of exhaust, making the car lighter, wheels, and so on. I think that the 4.2 is a bit heavier than the original 4.1 design, altho I like the 4.2s looks.

Think i just need to buy one and then figure it out on what i want to do and the economics of it all really.

im after something quick but not overally fast would be the end result. so part of me thinks getting a 4.2 d4d and chipping it the other petrol... itd be the main evrryday car with other cars taking over the weekend performance car route.

on a side note, think ive been chatting with a mate of yours on thr civic forum
