Well put the ole girl into mot station today failed??? :crybaby: Front headlight low/headlight bulb not secured?WTF REAR handbrake low power/ then fog lights not working? and dash fog warning (GREEN) IS THIS normal? The worse bit is excessive smoke out the car i put 150mls of injector cleaner in and did,nt think this would cause a problem? But now not so sure. The car had over 40 failed starts so thought it was just clearing itself so i hammerd it down bypass few times but still smokes. Do i run the fuel out and put some fresh in and hope this clears up or have i goosed engine i know these use oil a little but this is black sootY IE injector cleaner maybe i messed up eah!

Anyways this fog lightthing do the rears come on with the stalk switch and put green light on dash to say on? and also is there a relay for this can.t find it yet found fuses there ok if i pul it 15amp dash light goes out.

HELP....

1) bulb not secure in holder, or bulb put in incorrectly

2) Rear Handbrake needs checking, cable needs adjustment or replacment.

More importantly,

What engine? What car?

What colour of smoke?

Does it smokke on idle?

Well bulbs are all new and switch only moves from off to mid position with green dash light which is front fogs? I don,t have them fitted on my model gs avensis.

Hand brake rear brakes now stripped and cleaned refitted copper sliped, Ok there.

As for engine 1.8 vvti 2002 manual petrol avensis

Black smoke I,e fuel unburned (NOT BLUE I.E OIL)!!!

NO SMOKE on idle @ all only black when reved hard i.e cat test. bare in mind car has had fault an been started 40-50 times but cut out! faulty coils now fixed.

So was thinking all that fuel unburned of course was sitting in exhaust/ cat pipes but have driven it hard for 20 miles or so still smokes black when rev,d even with airfilter out.

Will refill with new fresh fuel and try again but its wierd.

You need to look at the plugs and the o2 sensor.

But Ive not seen black smoke on petrol before!

If its black smoke normally means its running rich.

You are correct about the injector cleaner causing the problem. I think the smoke will eventually clear, but not soon enough. The cat could be partially blocked and holding back muck. Go for another drive using only 4th and 3rd gears. This may clear the smoke. You may have to do short burst at 6000 rpm! That is 2nd gear at 60 mph.

Remember your car has multiple cats, so more to clear. (may be a cat cleaner, I am not keen on too much additives).

Good luck
