First Stone Chip

I found what I thought was a bit of tar on my Gen 3 Prius front bumper today only to find it is a :censor: stone chip! Gutted. Went directly to my main dealer for a touch up pencil which had to be ordered so next week I will have to attempt a chip repair which I am not looking forward too.

Of course its through to the black plastic so being a white car is shows up like a sore thumb!

:censor: stone chip roads!

Any advice on how to get it right the first time would be much appreciated!

I understand how you feel; stone chips are not easy to touch in. Did you get a can of touch up paint with your Prius? If you did I suggest use a cocktail stick and gradually build up the paint in the chip. Build it up slowly do not rush the job. Do not polish for a few days so the paint can harden. When hardened polish to blend it in. Remember to mix the paint thoroughly.

This tip was given me by a Chauffeur friend. You will always know where it was damaged but other folk will have a job to see where it was chipped.

The dreaded scratch :crybaby:. I had a scratch on the wheel arch of my Yaris. It was into the white (undercoat I assume?, my car is black metallic. I got the Toyota touch up pen. You get 2 bottles, one of coloured paint and one of a clear coat. It is very easy to do, the instructions actually make sense. Don't take any short cuts and obviously don't rush. My scratch is not noticible at all since I touched it up.

I actually have a tiny scuff on my windscreen from a stone, its definately not chipped as I took the car to autoglass and another winscreen place, they said its just a scuff, not a chip - luckily.

OK, thanks guys. I have touch up paint coming in on Tuesday so weather permitting will make a start then.

At least being on a plastic panel you will not have to worry about any corrosion
