New 57 Plate Avensis, Couple Of Problems

Guys,

Hope someone can advise...

I've just purchased a 57 plate avensis 2.0 TSpirit and have a couple of problems with it

It's not come with an owners manual, the garage I brought it from are ordering one but don't know when it's coming in.

First problem is that I can't work out how to reset the average MPG, when I got it it was at 26.1, it's gradually creeping up and it's now at 27.4, however I suspect it's so low as the garage had it running without moving for an age. I've put fuel in it to see if that resets it and it doesn't, is there a way of resetting it back to 0? I've tried pushing the display button to get into settings when it's stationary, however the only options I get are clock and units, can't see a way of resetting the average MPG.

Secondly, the reversing sensors don't work, doesn't even beep when I put it into reverse, now the place I got it from have it booked in to have a look at this and resolve it, however they don't have a slot for a couple of weeks and it's miles away! Can anyone give me any pointers of what and where to check just to make sure it's not something simple? I've looked in the boot and cannot find a switch to enable or disable it.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Danny welcome to the forum,

I think i know what the reversing aid problem could be, they are turned off in the boot to turn on go to the boot expose the spare wheel, look to the left at the bulk you will see a toggle button that turns the sensores on/off, if you have a tow bar fitted when on the sencers will think you have an object behind you that is why people turn it off, as for your mpg they are not very accurate so not many owners use it.

To reset the average fuel usage display - start the engine - repeatedly press the DISP button on the steering wheel until the average figure is displayed - press and hold the DISP for a second or two - readout should return to zero.

Speaking as I find - according to manual calculations my display appears to be reasonably accurate.

Good luck with the car.

Update, and I'm liking this forum!

Resetting the MPG worked as described, and a 120 mile journey home gave me an MPG of 37.1 which whilst I accept may not be very accurate made me smile (used to drive an L200 pickup...)

And had looked for the switch in the boot, but not in the wheel well. Just had a look and no switch there, however did notice a camouflaged switch hidden in the side pocket to the left of the wheel well, turned it on and lo and behold the reversing sensors are now working as well! Not sure why they fitted the switch as it's not got a tow bar, but guess it's good to have in case I ever fit one.

Many thanks all, much appreciated.

The switch in the boot for sensors anables you to turn off when towing a trailer, you don,t wanna here that each time with a trailer attached. Also when a tow bar is fitted green light fitted in cockpit to let you know all trailer light are working.
