Supercharger Compressor Oil

Hello all,

I am just after a an explaination as to why the oil in supercharger in my TTE is in fact soluble oil?

Having just changed my oil i was at a loss as to why this was the case.

The oil i used was Klubersynth GH 6-80 which i got direct from the guys @ Kluber Lubrication GB.

Just for anyone wondering they now stock the oil in 1L cans as they have the demand from us.

Around £80 for 1L.

Thanks

Patrick

Man that's expensive!

Thanks for posting up though as I suspect many compressor owners will sleep easier knowing where they can get the oil from

No worries. The garage I got the car from are paying for the oil and I'll be doing the sc oil change the weekend so should be all good

All good then

Mine turned up today. Did the oil change straight away, no oil was showing on the dipstick before the change but when I drained the oil I removed 30ml of black thick oil  , I filled up with nice new oil until the dipstick was reading half way when just rested in place and this was just over 80ml used on the oil change. Easy job to do and doesn't take long at all.

The gasket was re-used, was not damaged at all and surprisingly had not gone brittle so I did not replace it this time.

There's lots of info on here about changing the oil, I don't have the links on my iPad but if you search for compressor oil you should fine them. It's 6 bolts to undo and 1 clip to get the compressor inlet manifold off you then have easy access to both the dip stick for checking and filling and also the drain plug.

Hi guys, just some info ive been looking into regarding supercharger oil, Ive been in contact with Opie Oils and asked them if they can supply another oil that meets the Klubersynth specifications. After a few questions and double checks they have recommended that FUCHS titan race pro S 5W 40 due to it being extremely shear stable and the same visocity and protection rating as Klubersynth. They have run this oil in other superchargers with no problems and from my years in running Evos, this oil is very good. Opie has recomended that the only slight draw back is that the oil may need to be changed annually as the pro s isnt classed as a 'lifetime' oil, but to be honest if your going through the hassle to checking it during a service, for the greatly reduced cost of the pro s oil, its prob worth just changing it and keeping the 'charger bearings in fresh oil.

I know the Klubersynth is a lot of peoples prefered choice but after reading thru the forum and seeing the cost and hassle it takes for 1L of the stuff to be delivered, im happy enough to go with the FUCHS oil as its easily available. Im just so suprised Toyota have just not bothered including the supercharger as part of a service item seeing as its theyer official production model.

Anyway, hope this helps :)

The oils not hard to get and I would rather pay for the correct stuff. The problem now is getting a gasket for replacement I went into Toyota on Friday for one and it came back product is dis-continued so I now need to source one or make my own.

Yes Reidy, thats the one. I know a lot of people will rather the klubersynth but looking at the specs of the both oils, for whats written down, theres very little to suggest why the FUCHS isnt a good alternative. I would agree that if in dought then stick with the original oil but if the level on our car turns out to be very low or empty, for speed of delivery and quality of oil, il be happy to give the FUCHS a shot seeing as it has been run in other superchargers at present.

Compress'rolla, how much was the DIY gasket stuff on eBay and what one are you going to use?

I bought 1mm thick paper gasket 2 a4 sheets was £5 should be here near the end of the week. Toyota said that they will send out an email and if someone has one they will email them back normally the same day so doesn't look good. Will keep u all posted.

well today feeling a bit dodgy i changed the oil in the compressor and to no surprise there was none in it apart from about 20ml of gritty oil glad i caught it when i did or it would not have been nice. but i never had to make a gasket the original was in good condition but it looked as though someone had been in the compressor before me as all the bolt heads had pink marker on them but the compressors was white.
