I had a Gen2 Prius a couple of years ago and after some time in a very thirsty car I've decided to move back into a Hybrid.

Done a deal on a T-Spirit Auris with SatNav today - hopefully get it in the end of next week.

Looking forward to both the car and the large fuel savings that I'll make!

Good luck! I've had mine a year this month and hope you like it as much as I do!

Sounds good - I had a fast and thirsty car which I changed for a Gen2 2009 Prius which I have enjoyed for the past year. I think I am about to be offered a good deal on a 2 litre MX5 with folding hard top - not sure whether to go for it but I am tempted!

Well done you. We've had our HSD since July 2010, and it's still giving! Admittedly, it's not quite as economical as it could be averaging 54 MPG over the first year, but that's probably my fault and not the car! Dave.

That's a very different car, David, you are not really comparing like with like. The Prius is a very different ambience, size, capacity and (of course) dynamics. A friend let me have a drive in his MX5 one time top-down. Good car, fun to drive, but a bit small. Definitely not a family car... unless you have a W C Fields type attitude towards your children.

Looks like I should be getting my car on Friday. I'm moving from a Lexus IS250 with 200bhp, but I found that the Auris HSD was still a fun drive. When I had an extended test drive, I liked that my normal run to work and back averaged 73mpg, but in my Lexus the same journey is about 26mpg!.

Hi Roadrunner

Thanks for your comments - all are welcome. My previous car was a Subaru Legacy SpecB - which was very fast, thirsty and over £400 RFL. I loved driving it but didn't like the running costs and when the radio/sat nav started playing up just out of warranty I came back to Toyota. The Prius is a good car and I think it makes a lot of sense to my head, but I don't like the noise it makes when accelerating hard although I don't want to knock the Prius!

I have been offered the MX5 and I know the car and owner very well so know it is a good one. My wife has the Auris that has done little mileage from new and I could use that for family use instead of the Prius. We hardly need two cars now (and there is a third banger that my daughter uses that I could drive). It is all a bit complicated as I am also cutting back and will retire in 3 years so I mustn't waste money but I won't get an opportunity to buy a sports car with a known history at a good price again. I have never driven a sports car although I have been in the MX5 as a paasenger - I suppose I might not like driving a car so low down (the acceleration and rear wheel drive are no problem to me but the height below lorries etc maybe). I may just forget the idea!

Anyway I hope the original poster loves the Auris HSD which should be a great car

Picked up my Auris HSD last night - very pleased with it so far.

Seems to drive okay and the T-Spirit spec is very nice

The only disappointment is that the reversing camera screen doesn't have the guidelines like the camera system on a Prius and Lexus vehicles I've owned in the past. I find that rather strange - the non-SatNav version displays the lines on the screen in the rear view mirror (according to the manual), but the SatNav version doesn't (can't see any mention of the lines in the manual).

I agree, it does seem strange, especially as they appear on the Touch and Go screen on the new Yaris (test drove one a couple of weeks ago) and they are definitely missing from our Auris.

  • 7 months later...

..and annoyingly the picture of the reversing camera in the brochure shows it with the lines - seems like false advertising to me

Isn't there a setup menu to apply some setting for the lines on the Auris ?

No. I've even looked at the hidden diagnostic mode for the SatNav system. The owners handbook for the car and Nav system makes no mention of the lines.

There are no guide lines built into the reversing camera on my new Verso S

Possibly because Toyota feel that the guidelines are not necessary on the smaller vehicles

I would be interested if anyone finds out if it is possible to get the guidelines added through the software
