Does any one know how to remove the painted covers off the mirrors?

Many thanks

Ok,

Here goes,

1st pull the mirror glass from the bottom by getting your fingers in between the glass and housing until it clips out.

let it hang by the wires to one side.

2nd looking at the housing you will be able to see the 4 coloured ( your mirror colour )through the black housing, one on the left, one on the right and two on top.

3rd, it took me some time to figure out how to get the covers off but once I had I now find really easy, as you look inside the housing locate the clip on the outer side (furthest away from the car, right mirror far right/left mirror far left)push the clip out and at the same time put pressure on the outer edge of the coloured mirror cover until you here it click out, keeping pressure on the cover move to the next clip along and do the same working your way towards the car, as you work your way along the cover will come away.

4th the new cover just clips easily back into place.

5th is a little tricky, getting the mirror glass back into place, first tilt the mirror glass housing (white plastic square piece that the glass clicks too)by pushing the bottom off it in as far as it goes so that the bottom is away from you and the top is out towards you, this will then allow you to locate the hinges of the mirror glass into the holes at the top of the white plastic piece before clipping the glass into place by pushing clips into place at the bottom of the glass.

dont worry about breaking any clips as you wont, these clips are made from strong flexible plastic and so are deigned not to break.

I hope this helps

no probs,

glad I can help, i asked the question about removing the covers on here but got no reply so I thought well just get stuck in and find out, it can,t be that hard.

I work in the Plastics Manufacturing Industry so I had a good idea the they would be made of ABS and so will be very strong and impact resistant plus flexible, because of this I had a good feeling that I would't break or damage anything.

I have taken off my Silver covers and fitted some brand new Pearl White covers that I got off eBay for £10.00 (bargain) I have done this so that I can cover them with Carbon Fibre (its easier to do with them on the car) to match my Carbon Fibre bonnet.

If you start with the carbon-foil... please update some photo's.. I found it somewhat difficult (very) to work with despite the use of a hairdryer... There is a topic about this (the one with the Lexus)

But beware...

At this moment it seems that the very warm sun.. tends to give some shrinking of the foil ... The outline is somewhat smaller .. about 1/10 of a millimeter... looks like it... but will have to wait if more will happen. It is especially on the places I have used the hairdryer the most. Here was the most stretching...

I found the Carbon Fibre quite easy, I used a Heat Gun and not a hair dryer, I also got my wife to help, she held the Carbon Fibre Wrap while I took my time heating and spreading the wrap with no pulling or stretch marks.

Please see link above.

I also got my wife to help

Thanks... I think the extra hand does the trick... I did it alone and burnt my fingers.. ha ha

And maybe the foil you used was from different quality... I guess.. :-)

Has anyone seen any aftermarket mirror covers? I have found many for other Toyota models but none so far for the iQ?

There are some chrome one's around which are from Toyota. People generally remove them and spray them in their desired colour

Thank you David. I found the part I was looking for, it's not the entire cover but it is a replacement lighting element that has diectional/running/foot lights. I'll be ordering a set soon.

Top man Taz I want them NOW!!! going to order them. Has yours arrived and fitted? or does it take an eternity to get items from China area? Not sure id they are meant to be daytime running lights (may be illegal in the uk) or come on when the door is opened ,lighting the floor. Of course if you bring your mirrors in when parked then they will just light the outside of the door. So not sure how to wire them for the best effect.

Shouldn't take long to get here from China, sometimes a couple of days to a week, but it's that time of year where everything goes slowly.

They are still on order. I'll post up pics once I get them.

Be aware of shipping costs! The Chinese stuff sometimes go a strange route... but they will inform you that the shipping-costs have gone up.... and then you can cancel the deal...

The mirror lights arrived today. I'll be installing them this weekend (provided they fit the Scion). I'll post up pics of the finished product.
