The Electric Power Steering seems to be a favourite failure and warranty replacement is performed without a flutter of an eyelid.

I bought my 07 1.6 petrol 60k miles last Feb and noticed a clicking sound from the front footwell which seemed to be nothing serious. In fact the Toyota dealer who sold it to me said it was from the the innards of the Instrument panel. Nothing to worry about.

It did not get any worse, but, in May I took it to my local Mr.T and he diagnosed a steering failure. So they replaced the complete Steering Column T45250-02673. Cost £838. Free Warranty to me.

Then in June the water pump seized up and burnt out the v-belt. Another warranty. Thank heavens.

If you bought your Auris from a Toyota dealer then you would automatically get a 12 month extended warranty which will cover this steering column. If you do not have the warranty, then you will need to bite the bullet.

Cheers,

Hi blackwiddow.

when you say complete steering failure,do you mean no steering at all?

if it was an ecu would there not be a fail safe system that still gives you some sort of steering control ie without power assist.

  • 2 months later...

There is a TSB about this issues in 2009 - CP-0075T-0109-EN - it basically replaces steering shaft.

Subject:

Steering intermediate shaft knocking noise

Models:

AURIS, COROLLA

Model codes:

ZZE150, ZRE151, NDE150, ADE150, ADE157

It should not be £700 pounds to replace though (in my opinion that is)
