2006 Spirit - Radio

The radio buttons on my car started failing intermittently, and then stopped working altogether.

The initial failures were somewhat random, but usually involved the Power button.

The last failure was of all the buttons except for the power button which still worked. None of the others (mode changes, unload CDs etc) would work.

The dealer reset it (apparently by disconencting the battery) and all is well at the moment.

If it fails again, it will apparently have to be taken out and sent to a sepcialist repairer to check for loose connections.

If that fails, the only solution will be to replace the radio.

The quote is £1,300. No, I have not let an extra zero creep on the end there.

I see from a quick Google that this problem is not uncommon.

Has anyone identified a solution which costs less that £1,300? Preferably about £1,299 less?

Failing that, I suppose I will leave the radio turned on and fake "on" and "off" by varying the volume. When the buttons have stopped doing their jobs, the radio can still be controlled from the touch screen and the steering wheel.

It does seem to be a common problem which I'm yet to experience with mine. Although I'm sure it will happen just as the warranty expires!

You can turn it off with the steering wheel though instead of turning the volume down. Just press and hold the mode button until it turns off.

Thanks.

If that's in the manual, I missed it.
