Squeaky Brakes When Reversing...

Hi everyone...just wondering if anyone else here have had this problem of your brakes squeaking when you brake gently in reverse?...I've just had new discs and pads, front and rear fitted professionally at a garage about two months ago...my problem started about a fortnight ago...this squeaky or squealing sound only happens when I brake in reverse, it's kinda irritating because I'm not sure exactly what's causing it....but I have heard that the gen 7 celicas do suffer from this problem and was hoping maybe someone out there can advise me on it...I've heard theres a spray called disc brakes quiet that may help...but would a spray help or is the problem deeper?....thanks in anticipation everyone...

Can only say that it's not a unique problem... I had the same on an Audi A4. The noise was very very loud too.

So I'm pretty sure you haven't a fault as such, annoying yes, and maybe there is some fix/fiddle that will stop it. It might even stop altogether as the pad/disc beds in.

Fixes that come in spray cans never usually last ;)

Best advice I can give is this -

Remove pads

Clean caliper

Wet & Dry pad sliders to ensure they are smooth

Check rear discs are on properly

Wipe discs with a clean rag

Wipe pad faces with clean rag

Check pads for uneven wear - If the wear is not even, then the sliders have been sticking

Ensure shims are on the rear pads - if not, get some.

Put Copper grease on the back of the pads

Re-fit pads & clips - if you're missing the clips get new ones (or use a paper clip - I have one on mine)

Bleed caliper

Repeat for other side

If it's still happening then its not your brakes.

Hi ewardio thanks for the advice...I was going to do it but then my brother had a better idea, cos my brakes was nearly new...I had them done two months before the squealing noise, I was still covered under warranty, I took the car to the garage which did the brakes and after an examination there was a problem with the left hand side disc!...car got booked in and everythings sweet now!....

Good news then!

Please don't tell me you got the work done at a Kwik Fit or a Formula 1 type place?

Lol!...no I had the brakes done at a local garage with a good reputation....that's why they never quibbled!...but it's good that they are honest in a way because I would recommend them now....
