Buying A Rav 4.3

Hi all. Looking to buy a Rav 4.3 2006 or 2007. Would love a diesel but you are screwed for tax over here in Ireland for the 2.2. Diff between 614 for petrol and 860 for the diesel. Anyway just wondering what to look out for with these and can anyone give me a real world figure for the mpg. I would be doing mostly short 5 miles to work and back with the odd 150 mile run thrown in. Thanks in advance.

I would have thought for that Mileage a petrol would be better .. I do a fairly high mileage so Diesel is the only way for Me..

But given Your short trip to work and that Diesels drink a bit while warming up and that difference in tax then petrol Me thinks !!And that's without considering the premium You will pay for a Diesel over a petrol car..

Agree with Charlie, unless you need the torque from a diesel you will be far better off with the petrol for the miles you do.

A 2.2 diesel will hardly get to operating temperature in 5 miles so fuel consumption will be poor and in winter you will freeze your bits off before the heater warms up.

Also no DMF and no reported engine probs with the petrol

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Am leaning that way myself at the mo. Any thoughts on the real world mpg for the petrol? As charlie says with the mileage I do the petrol would be the one. But at the same time I wouldn't want it to be doing supercar mpg.

My wife uses our 08 2.2 diesel. She is doing short journeys at moment as on maternity leave. Mpg is a confirmed average of 40mpg.

When she starts commuting again this should hopefully increase with the increased distances.

2.2 diesel T180 (black) 2006 year, 53K miles.

It runs everyday far a short period of time (single road, 6-7 miles) = MPG: 33,5 - 33,7

If I go down to Inverness (A9 road, 60 miles) it's a wee bit more.

BUT! the DPF (Diesel Particle Filter) can't clean itself over a short distance.

Sometimes, I need to give it a bit more thrust in long distances as well.

I will go to Europe in december. I will get the motorway MPG info then. ;)
