Auris Hybrid - Automatic Wipers

Got my Auris Hybrid on Friday. Today I had lots of rain driving home. No matter what setting the Auto Wipers were on they didn't move.

On arriving home I've been outside and sprayed water onto the windscreen in the area of the sensor and still no movement.

When I first select Auto, the wipers move once to confirm the selection but after that, nothing.

Anyone else had this issue?

Sorry, no. Mine have worked as advertised, wiping once when first switched on and then as required depending on rain density and sensitivity setting on the stalk.

They work great on my Prius — in fact, they're the best automatic wipers I've had. I've had them on several cars, and this is the first one where I've been able to dial down the sensitivity.

Mine, on the Prius, are very random. No matter what setting I have them on they work as if they are on the lowest setting, then they sometimes go mad when there is very little rain on the screen :censor: .

When they are already switched on, are they supposed to wipe once when you change the setting ? they did on my Mondeo.

Mine too. The last three cars have had auto wipers, my t-spirit Avensis, the Gen2 t-spirit Prius and now the Gen3 Prius. All work just like it says on the tin.

Maybe a quick trip back to the dealer is in order....

Thanks for the responses guys. Looks like I've got to go back to the dealer :-(

Before you run back to the dealer or read the handbook, remember that you have to move the wiper stalk down one click to engage auto mode, then you need to adjust the sensitivity by rotating the control in the middle of the stalk, turning it up (towards the screen) will make the wipers come on faster.

Once set they work very well and I have never needed to adjust them since, like the way they stay set (no need to turn them on again after starting the engine, like on my old peugeot).

If this does not work then you will need to give the dealer a ring.

O.M.G. What a performance !!!

I rely on the old MkI eyeball method I've used for years :--

1. See water spots on windscreen, delegate issue to wife or passenger to check for low flying birds [They like to be involved, you know !] and evaluate advice - concentration and content of deposit.

2. Move R/H sticky out thing under steering wheel = UP 1 Click to clear evidence and make executive decision on result.

OK OK -- I'm taking the P--s, but where will it all end ?? sensors to tell you the boot is full - auto drop down your visors if the sun comes out [optional in UK] - SATNAV of parking warden movements to evaluate how long they will get to your illegal act??

.......ll - auto drop down your visors if the sun comes out [optional in UK]

do you mean that big orange ball that briefly appeared on 21 July 1994 ?

- SATNAV of parking warden movements to evaluate how long they will get to your illegal act??

Mine does that already! Don't they all??

Comments on new technology...

Eey oop, lad, looxury!

I remember t'day when wipers were manually operated and heated rear windscreens were optional extras you stuck on the glass.

Them were days.

THREAD HIJACK MODE OFF

The new tech is wonderful - provided it works. Not so much fun when it doesn't seem to. Hope the OP gets the auto wipers sorted...

Just remember to switch them off in difficult winter weather.

There is little more disconcerting than a sudden unexpected wipe across a cold, slushy screen, that turns it into a completely opaque surface while you are running in close traffic on a motorway . . . . .

and on a frosty morning when the wipers are stuck to the glass = fuse blown or wipers ruined.

And when going into a carwash. Oops.

There's enough bad news about automatic gizmos in this thread to cause serious concern, but how about a wish list for makers to consider that would be really really useful, safety proactive, and prevent traffic law contavention.

My two as follows :---

1. Tyre inflation state sensors.

2. Bulb failure sensors.

Here's dreaming :help2:

Tyre pressure sensors exist - in my town, there's a company that makes them for export all around the world.

Bulb failure sensors - sheesh, I remember my Dad's Volvo had that 40 years ago.

Hopefully it will all end with a car that can drive me home on its own.

hehe, I remember that sensor on the lights as well, but this was on a FSO Polonez, but it worked.

The wiper is also a bit random for me, but in rain more heavy it works fine, just not good at stopping again once I enter a parking complex or similar.

I would like though, for all this electronic gizmos:

- Electric heated/Cooled coffee cup, brew your coffee at home keep it hot in the car, or a nice cup of ice tea and keep it cold.

- Aircon in the seats like the camry

- Automatic fold in mirrors when locking the car (Know they get it in the US)

- Automatic seat/steering wheel memory for 3 users, nothing more painful after the wife (1,53 cm 52kg) have been driving and I enter my small 110kg frame in the same seat....

- Automatic 12000W rear bright white LED spots to blind those @#!$#@ people behind me that thinks fog lights look cool to use with no fog, and it also goes for those that retro fitted their 1987 pickups with bright lights since they have no money to get a new window that is not cracked or dirty. :ffs:

- Full car function via voice like on the Ford Fiesta, "Radio, 99.5" and it goes there. "CD number 5, track 10" and it goes there, plus it can also call numeric, though don't have too much accent otherwise you will get a hold of new people that you didn't know before :)
