Hello everyone,

I am a new member who have just signed up to this forum. I own a Toyota Yaris 1.3L,5 doors 2007 and I really need your help since I know nothing about cars. I have been driving in this vehicle for the last 6 months. During the winter or when it rains, I realise that the all the windows including the windcreen and the back gets very very erm STEAMY should I say. I understand that when the windows and windscreen gets steamy I should turn on the heater and set it onto the icon that is for windows. But this doesnt really resolve the problem. Its very bad and I dont know what to do. It is very dangerous to drive when the view is kinda blocked I guess. I have tried turning to the maximum but the car does get very hot and I feel sick having the heater on for so long. Please help me out, I have little one at the back too and I want to drive safely. Thank you in advance!!

Hello Kim, welcome to TOC

It could well be that your air intake control on the dashboard is set to recirculate and you are not getting any fresh air circulating through the car.

This would account for the car getting hot and the windows steaming up

If you reset the control to the symbol showing an arrow going from outside to inside that is the setting for fresh air

The recirculating sign is a circular arrow within a car symbol and is only used when the air outside is polluted or smokey

Normal running is usually with fresh air selected.........Hope this helps!

If there is a pollen filter fitted then when was that last looked at or renewed? A dirty filter would have the same effect as recirculating. Could be it's been in there for four years!

Try all the advice you have been given, if it works, fine, if not lift the carpets you may well have a water leak and find that the floor is wet under the carpets which will case the problems you describe.

Regards Geoff Peace.
