According to page 398 of the handbook, this is the master warning light - there may be a warning message displayed in the right hand information display (right hand dial).

thank you very much....i do not have the car or manual yet I will be collecting them tomorrow...all i could say is the car seemed to be in good running order the only issue was that it was low on fuel...could it be because of this??

Did a buzzer sound as well? You really need to check what the warning message is. Yes if the car was low on fuel, the warning message would be "low fuel". Other minor reasons could be that one of the doors or the tailgate weren't properly closed, the parking brake is still engaged, the oil level is low, oil needs changing, key Battery low on charge, etc.

However, more serious warnings include 'check brake system' (brake fluid low, or braking system malfunctioning), low oil pressure (abnormal oil pressure), charging system (malfunction within the charging system), check airbag (malfunction in the SRS system), check ABS ( malfunction in the anti lock braking system), etc. For these more serious warnings, the vehicle needs to be inspected immeditately.

Again - check what the warning message is.

Is this whilst the car is running? whilst the key is in the ignition? whilst the key is turned to start the car?

More context is needed to truely help you with this one, but bear in mind that the warning light which you are seeing is normally lit up during the start up process of the car, or for any of the issues listed previously in the thread.

I recommend you watch a video on YouTube of the Auris Start up and watch the lights on their car, and compare that to yours.

If this light is on with the key out and the car stopped then you have an open door somewhere, or potentially a more serious issue.

it comes on for a number of reasons e.g the handbrake is still on or the door open. It should tell you on your display what it refers to when u start up/shut down
