Avensis Power Steering

The Chilled-out Welshman

Hello everyone. My car is a 2000 Avensis 2.0 VVTI CDX and I hope that someone may have come across this problem before and have an answer. When travelling at under 30mph the steering feels loose in the straight ahead position and sometimes seems to 'jump' slightly to left or right. It feels as if a track-rod end is worn but I can find no play anywhere at all. It has been suggested to me that it could be loose connections in the power steering ECU which, it seems, is located on top of the steering column behind the dashboard dials but my Haynes manual makes no mention of such a unit. Thanks for any help in advance.
