Noises After Engine Change

Hi chaps Ive just had an engine change and had a new clutch fitted too at the same time. (only 50k on the clock but saves on labour later) Im almost certain that Im not being too paranoid with every small noise that the car is making but its making 2 sets of noise when using the clutch that it never made before the engine change.

1) when out of gear and idling its makes a very faint rubbing/tinny rattleing sound. Push down the clutch and this noise stops. It might be making it when in gear but its hard to tell when driving along.

I imagine its something like the pressure plate is rubbing on something? or the clutch is rubbing on something when not engaged?

So any ideas and should it be making the noise and is it serious? I did take it back after picking it up to raise it as an issue but they said its fine its just the pressure plate and bedding in, but im not so sure as 80 miles down the road as its still making it.

2) When coming off the clutch changing gears in anything but a smooth gear change (eg dropping 4th to 3rd for an over take/climb a hill) or when applying the accelerator pedal from a steady speed to accelerate sharply or coming off the accelerator having accelorated sharpy the car makes a clunking noise. Its repeatable and its coming from the engine bay. Its almost as when the engine speed and wheel speed isnt matched and is changing very quicky the somthing knocks.

Any ideas? again any of the then serious? I was thinking possibly loose engine/gearbox mount or even sub frame mount. Or theres some play in the drive shafts? Its alomst like chain slap on a mountain bike when theres too much play in the drive chain.

Im hoping no one suggests the DMF as the car was fine before going in for the engine (well except the engine issue of course :) )

Just want to have some ideas before i take it back in to get it looked at as I dont want to get fobbed off again and need to be able to trust the car again esp as ive got some long drives coming up.

Cheers gents

Hello, I guess YOU know how the car sounds and feels better than anyone so take it back to the garage ask to see the manager and take no crap from them, ask them to check it again! If they still find nothing to report get your worries down in writing and get the manager to sign as no faults found. You WILL have warranty on any work carried out so plenty of time for the faults to clear up or get worse.

Best of luck mate, maybe you could send a PM to Ormi and ask for his trusted opinion.

Pete.
