Side Mirror Needs Replacing

Hi All,

Someone (drunkard) snapped off my passenger mirror last night. He has broken the glass and the housing so i need to replace the whole thing. I have found a replacement online for about £83. Toyota will charge me £145 plus VAT plus labour. (electric btw)

My question is, does anyone know if I need to take out the door panel to replace or if it is just the plastic triangle? I have a 2007 Yaris with colour coded mirrors.

Any help will be much appreciated.

I'm fairly sure the whole of the door inner trim panel/armrest etc. has to be removed to gain access to the three nuts which hold the mirror assembly in place. There's also an electrical plug to remove for the electric mirrors.

There is a "tutorial" for removing the panel here http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2305 but you'll have to register to see the pictures. It is very easy as long as you take care. Don't remove the door handle the way stated though, it's easier to remove the two cables from behind the panel after it is lifted away slightly.

The mirror from Toyota must be gold plated and it would be interesting to hear what they want to charge for 10 minutes labour!

If you don't want to d.i.y. then ask a local body shop/garage how much they would charge to fit your own bought mirror. If it's supplied unpainted then they should be able to do that too - extra cost of course.

Don't you just love the mindless morons who would wilfully damage someone else's property like that?!

In total Toyota will charge approx £250+ to provide and get the mirror on.

I will watch the video later, as I am at work right now, but many thanks fo that. I may have to ask the local garage to help me as I'm prone to breaking things (us girls aren't good at DIY)

At least the morons only broke my mirror, they broke fences other cars and uprooted gardens and placed them on cars?!

Oh an police still haven't turned up 3 days later!

Colour Mirror arrived on Friday (I ordered on Tuesday)

It is all fixed now, and it is as easy as the pictures look.

The only hard part was undoing the screws and bolts. I think they were tightened by a machine at factory.

All in all very happy with the new mirror!
