Hello i am a newbie to the forum.

I have been reading up about 4x4s as we need a bigger car for our camping gear not going to use it off road and I like the rav4

I am looking at buying a rav4 next year about march time with my redundancy money

I would like some advice as which one to buy I am looking for a 2005 4.2 or a 2006 4.3 diesel xt5 spec

What are the pro's and con's

I couldnt find anything on the forums about buying a used rav if there is a section perhaps one of you kind people could point me in the right direction.

Should be, I've just bought a late 06 XT4 petrol from car auctions. 42k one lady owner and full service history, cost £8500. Thats the good bit, thought I'd bought a diesel, lol, never mind its a lovely car, spare has never been touched.

I think it depends on whether You want a Petrol or a Diesel car... Petrols are cheap !! But are regarded as slow noisy and thirsty... Diesels cost a lump more in terms of outlay but cost less to run on a weekly basis.. I just love the huge torque of the Diesel engine and the low down power delivery and how quiet the car is. Plus I do a lot of long motorway trips where the diesel just slaughters the petrol cars economy.

10K will buy a very good low mileage Petrol car or still a good but likely higher mileage Diesel.

I think given that your budget will run to it, the 4.3 offers more safety features (XT4 and up have VSC and 9 airbags).
