Engine Whine When Throttle Released 2.0 D4D

When I change gear and step off the throttle pedal the engine makes a high pitched whine type noise for a moment as the revs reduce. Is this normal? Turbo noise perhaps? Never had it on other diesels.

I personally have never heard the turbo on mine, certainly not on lift off.

Maybe I am going deaf.

i noticed mine doing that ages ago and as i've done 128k in less than 3 years i wouldn't worry,it's weird and intermittent but harmless

If it's a very high pitched whine then it could be the gearbox bearings making the noise. Don't think it's an issue unless it gets worse. My petrol Avensis does it too.
