Glow Plug Relay

Hi guys,

What is the normal pre-heat time for the glow plugs on a D4D Avensis?

I would expect 10 or 15 seconds but my indicator light only stays on for 1 or 2 seconds max.

This time seems much too short to do any good as I get a significant amount of blue smoke when starting from cold.

I guess I need to change the relay as I'm running on biodiesel and need to forestall any cold weather starting problems.

The warning light on the dash doen't always reflect the amount of time the glow-plugs are switched on. Plus heating time will vary according to coolant temperature. To check how long the pre-heat circuit receives voltage the use of as simple test light attacghed to the glow-plug coonections will be the most accurate way of checking.

I'll check it out tomorrow.

Seems unlikely as the wire to the indicator bulb should come from the same relay contact but you never know.
