Very brave man, to put 215 section rubber on, David....if you wanted a skate board ride (over the usual UK roads), you could have bought my Smart Cabrio!

the ride was the very reason that I have swapped for an IQ, although all the other benefits, have been slowly dawning on me, like being able to hear the radio at 70 mph, a seemless CVT gearbox ( was very worried it was going to be like a Daf!), acres of internal space, with genuine electric toys, not lip service being paid to window lifts/seat adjustments etc...

....and how Mercedes benz get away with only a 2 year warranty for the Smart, is amazing!!!!

as for the panel gaps David, how does one put a photo in the Post to share the information???

cheers BarryC.

Pictures can be put up 2 ways either up load them to a picture host site or your own site , Or you look below at Attachments and choose a file from your pc then press attach file. I think mine was advertised as having height adjuster but don't think it does. I assume it is a twirly handle or something.

David

David,

Just for your information, this is what the height adjuster looks like.

It is the longer of the two levers.

The shorter one is for the angle of the backrest, as before.

John

John, Is it only on the the driver side. and do I neeeeeeeed one? wonder if its possible to buy the lower part of the seat.I have had it to pieces because i upholstered my seats into leather

Sorry David, would have replied earlier but didn't notice your post.

The height adjuster is only on the drivers seat, and I don't suppose it is needed unless a person is vertically challenged betwixt bottom and eye height, and needs to be pumped up a bit to get a better view.(the seat that is)

Or conversely if the seat is already set high a taller person may want to lower it.

I actually forgot the adjuster was there and then fiddled with the position but ended up back where I started.

A cushion was the old method, I seem to remember, in Morris Minors and the like...

Yes, the first models do not have it.

The 2011 cars with the updated interior and other subtle mods do have the height adjuster.

Hi John

If you have a spare min,can you list all the panels in the new model that are white.Class the whole door panel as one On the doors, the window switch panel is separate and so is the door opening handle cup and the triangle shaped wing mirror cover.I know the panel where the glove bag goes is white and the lower panel on the drivers side is, incorporating the air bag plate. Also, the panel either side of the air con (which is in fact one piece}Not that bothered about the back. What colour are the corner plates in the foot well? one has the access cover plate built in. Only if you have time mate.

David,My new IQ is red so the inside is predominantly black and a very lustrous dark brown which looks fantastic and so much better than the lighter "plum" colours of my previous white IQ.(My own opinion of course and it will not suit everybody, but I like it)

So I can't help you with which bits and pieces are white I'm afraid!

Only the red, grey and amethyst exterior finishes have the dark interior, I believe.

John

Can't be of much help, sorry!

No worry John

Being last really, the showroom is only up the road. Going to cost up the panels. I know I have been advised to get them covered but then I loose my sense of adventure ripping it apart. Plus the car is with me at all times less chance of a dent.scratch etc and can do it at my own pace. I have had all the mentioned panels off already so no surprises assuming they haven't moved the locating pins on the doors etc.

This reply is for Barry

I tested the key fob that i took the Battery out of today. With the car locked and allI i had was a key fob with no Battery (simulating flat battery) I removed the mechanical key from the fob and put it in the lock and turned it to the left opening the car. Putting my foot on either the brake or clutch if you have amanual, I offered the "T" emblem to the start switch. When you get within 4 inches you hear a beep and by pressing the start button at the same time the car starts. Word of WARNING!! If you double /dead lock the car and open it manually the alarm will sound and can only be silenced by operating a normal operating fob.

David

Well thanks very, very much for that truly scientific study David.

Basically............it works.

So maybe I am double locking the car (by default??), when touching the entry handle on the IQ2? Is this why the alarm sounds with a manual entry, but can one do a keyless lock without double locking??

ANy ideas David???

Thanks BarryC.

Posted

Possibly, barry. If you look through the window at the dash board you can see if there are 2 padlocks slightly staggered it shows double dead lock. I tried it 4 times. My findings are as stated. I suppose the moral of the story is,don't double lock your car in case you loose the fob.

David

Posted

once again, thanks David..........and yes, I do have 2 staggered lock signs, meaning that the default locking arrangement is a dead lock, when keyless locking...

can you recall how to re-instate the single lock mechanism, as otherwise the manual entry is never going to work????

cheers Barry

Interesting. Normally you have to touch the handle twice within 2 seconds or press the rear top button to put the dead locks on. Will try to look into it

David

Ours displays 2 staggered locks after one touch of the door handle also (2009 59 reg).

As an experiment I tried touching handle twice within 2 secs and heard a clunk (but this might have just been 'reinforcing' the already deadlocked status).

Dave

Thanks for that Dave

According to my information, To cancel the double locking system, and I quote "Hold the outside door handle on the driver side and using the wireless remote, press the unlock button"

Anyone want to try it?

David

No effect. Tried holding the handle (as if unlocking the car), and then tried pinching front of handle (as if locking), and pressing unlock on remote at same time on each occasion. Stll interlocked padlocks on dashboard...
