And now I want the satnav fitted to my car, Thanks guys. :)

Actually it's seriously expensive to fit to an already built car, maybe I'll have a crack at building a TomTom into the dash somewhere.

Craig.

Actually I don't find the TNS510, as a satnav, very user friendly and it doesn't do speed limit warnings which I find useful to have.

I had a Tom Tom for a while but it kept switching on all by itself if left unused for a while in the house, all of a sudden you would hear "turn left when able" coming from the back room.

Bit disconcerting until we found out what it was.

I use a Garmin now which for me is the preferred one of those I have tried.

Question for David...can a reversing camera signal be fed into a satnav unit to display a video picture??

Just wondering!

John

The answer to that would normally be no. As there usually isnt a video input butyou can get the 4,5,6 inch screens that do and are made specifically for it available on eBay You could power it from the reversing light for automatic opetation or just a switch in the 12v input so you can look at the camera whenever

I had thought of that, but wondered if an aftermarket screen normally used for satnav could be switched to rear view in the same way as the TNS can be, as required.

As you say, without a video input facility it would be a no go.

I just put mine in today. Went a different route for mount, I used the rubber grommet for the rear wiper...

I like the look of the camera being in the wiper hole rather than a color matched hole plug. I have no need for a rear wiper where I live and I prefer the look without one. The camera is made to attach to the license plate frame so if I did mount it lower it would just be at the top of the plate.

There are more pictures of the intended mounting location here.

Ahhh .... no need fot wiper... OMG... you live in heaven ... ha ha ... No dust?

In Holland we can not do anything without rearwiper... and then the wiper is on the wrong side / we drive lefthanded, so on the right way of the road. And the rearwiper is made fot the righthanddrive / Japan / England etc...

Hi, I have one question. I look at eBay for rear view cameras. All of them have AV cable. It is possible with some modifications, connect this camera to the TNS 510 nav unit? I want that camera only for parking, so when I switch gear to reverse, camera turn on and I am able to see behind the car. Thanks.

Sorry for my English.

Martin from Slovakia. :)

I am using the Scion/Toyota 200 unit, it has a video cable input for the rear camera. Not sure if the TNS 510 comes equipped with that or not...Fish?

Nevermind, edited post since I'm an idiot. Forgot you don't have a camera input.

Hi this is how you install it in conjunction with the Tns510. The easy way is to connect the red 12v lead on the camera lead to the reversing bulb and the black to a local chassis earth. This means when reverse is selected it powers the reversing light and powers the camera on. The video lead needs to be fed to behind the Tns510 once you have removed the top cover and undone the 4 10mm bolts holding the satnav in. Take a look at toyota's installation of their camera and it will show you 4 wires going into a plug going into the rear of the satnav module. 2 black, a white wire and a red one. You need to cut the plug off your video lead and separate the two wires, a screen and the centre one. Connect the screen to either of the black wires and the centre video wire to the red wire. Tidy up, re- assemble and test

thank for your reply, I will test asap,

ok IQ dismantled, tomorrow I plug rear camera. I cut RCA and find 3 wires, a red a black and one yellow, after test, I must plug Yellow to red and black to black.

wait and see ! ;-)

Yes some camera suppliers incorporate all the wires in one cable. The red wire on the camera cable should go to either the rear reversing bulb so 12v is on it when in reverse powering up the or the live pin on the back of the cigarette lighter socket. The black and yellow should go: yellow to red wire at input to the Tns510 and the black wire to either of the 2 black wires next to the red wire going into the back of the Tns510

What is HR. the warning txt is built in to the graphics chip so always is present when in camera mode. If it comes up for a sec or so then the tns is not seeing video from your camera. Either it is not powered up ok or there is no video at the red wire input. If you get the warning message up but a continuous blank screen then the tns is seeing sync pulses from the camera but no video Which suggests knackered camera
