Dash Switch For Gen3 Prius

Have installed some electronics in my gen3 which just needs an on/off switch on the dash. Being a T3 model, I have a few nice switch blanking plates on the dash. The one where the IPA switch should be is in an ideal place. Just need to find a switch that will fit the hole. Is there an official part from Mr T or a handy one from a third party? Is just needs to be on/off. Doesn't need to light up or anything.

I cut out the centre of a blank and inserted a SPST switch. I'll get you the RS part number tonight.

Once or twice I've come across vague warnings that tinkering with the electrics in a modern car will upset the computer in some way. Is there any truth in this? And could it affect the warranty if it's not done by a Toyota dealer.

Well, if you're injecting a lot of electrical noise into the system it *could* confuse something. Having said that, cars are very noisy electrically anyway so the existing systems should be perfectly capable of handling anything we could throw at them.

I think most of those warnings are just to cover themselves...i.e. if you do something and cause problems, it's not their fault because they warned you!

As far as the warranty goes, I suppose it would depend on what you did. It's unlikely that modifying light circuits would affect the warranty on the hybrid system... Having said that, I usually wait till warranty's and such things have expired before making any modifications...don't want to give them any excuses...

What was it you were thinking of doing?

Thanks for the answer.

No, I don't have anything particular in mind. I was just curious what risks, if any, johalareewi and other clever people on this forum are taking by changing things.

Could take a look at the offerings from Vehicle Wiring Products Ltd. I've ordered a few things from them over the years and always had good service.

They look good.

Also found these via Priuschat.
