Rav4.2 Rear Window Loose And Seperated

Hi all,

When Mrs JL shut the door on the RAV, I noticed the rear window has become seperated from the door, in at least a 4-6 inches in the horizontal and vertical from the bottom right corner.

Obviously this is caused by the pressure wave when the door shuts, and is pretty dangerous should the glass be sucked out at 69.99MPH.

Does anyone know how the glass is fixed to the door? Clips and clamps or windscreen glue?

Hi Bob,

My rear window,I'm pretty sure is stuck in,and I think that when the car is designed the bonded in window is part of the strength and rigidity of the panel, ergo the cabin would be weakened without it.

Looks like a jobby for the windie people.

Gummed in. The flex of the body etc means that is insufficient goo is applied then the window comes loose and lets water in. Unlikely to blow out but more likely to rust. make sure the fitters put the right goo on as silicon rusts steel.

Thanks chaps, and great tips about the silicon, I did not know that. My neighbour might be able to help me out, rather than calling autoglass etc.
