Alloy Wheel Cleaner

I'm currently using autoglym alloy wheel cleaner for keeping my alloys shiny however I'm sorry today that it is rubbish.

My mother in laws wheels took three rounds of it anthe wheels are still not clean... And that was with scrubbing... At a wee local joint run by some extra friendly Polish people, the stuff they use is like magic. You can see the ground in dirt running off. All they need to do is spray it with a hose and it's done.

So what do you guys use? I remember Charlie showing pics of a wheel he cleaned and it looked brand new. What dd you use? This bottle is almost empty cos I've so much of the stuff in an effort to clean the wheels an I want to know what to buy next.

And. I have some minor surface scratches on the car. Been using a t cut paste stuff which is alright but again, not great. Besides a full detail with polishing machines, what the best way of removing scratches?

Thoughts....

Hi, know just what you mean about scrubbing wheels! I now use "Valet Pro Bilberry Safe Wheel Cleaner" @ £23.95 for 5l from Shinearama ( http://www.shinearama.co.uk/product.php?id=VAL-BILBWC-5L )

A quick squirt of the stuff diluted 5:1 from SWMBO's plant mister spray, leave it for 5 minutes and rinse it off. Job Done

Don't really know the answer, but I fear that you're not going to like it when we do find out. It is probably some aggressive acid-based cleaner that is not very good for the wheels that commercial places use.

I tried to pay attention at that CF's class and I am pretty sure he said G101 for cleaning (general purpose cleaner) followed by jetseal. Although something "very cherry" also springs to mind... Maybe I'll try to dig up the topic...

I've always used Wonder Wheels, which works a treat but it is an acid that eventually degrades the finish.

We just had all the wheels on both our RAV's refurbed by TWS and they advised me never to clean them with anything other than the same shampoo used for the bodywork. Most proprietary alloy cleaners are acid-based & will destroy the surface finish. Anything that can leave them pristine with just a jetspray wash must be highly acidic.

By the way, as far as the jetspray is concerned, those things can be lethal. I recently read a couple of warnings about them damaging tyres - there have been cases where they have essentially de-laminated the tread & others where the damage only became evident when the tyre blew out at speed.

Thoughts....

1.Book a day off work, making sure it will be a dry day.(Not Like today....guy next door collecting animals in pairs...)

2.Point yer lightly scratched car in a westerly direction, risking all things like nose bleeds and swearing.

3. Stop off in the G33 area furra coffee and I will SHOW ye how to machine polish said "light scratches" oot.

4. Will also demonstrify "Very Cherry" wheel cleaner, both acid (avoid) and non-acid....work brilliantly.

5. Also seal yer wheels with Jetseal 109.

6 Stop using T-Cut......less damage may be done with a shotblaster....!!!!

7. Will also gie ye a wee shot of foam lance Chickly Fickly recommended....pure dead brill, and...

8. Briefly demonstricate how to use a clay Bar if not already tried....

Blue Vortex and Charlie have a lot to answer for....ah was happy just being nuts before....

Big Kev.

Autobrite Very Cherry is an outstanding NON acidic .. Notice how I emphasise non acidic wheel cleaner.... Please never use acidic crap like Wonder wheels cos it will eat anything metallic like the hubs and unswept areas of the discs .. once properly cleaned and make no mistake badly caked wheels will need a good old fashioned scrub with a sponge and maybe something like Autosmart G101 VC will make those wheels shine like You wont believe !!....

Wee Charlie.

A word of warning weblers, if either kev or his mrs jumps in their car to move it, make sure your own is well off the street unless you are good at filling forms in.

For the record....ah reversed into a wheely bin, hence the reason I allowed Anchorman, against my better judgement, to fit me Toyota Reversey Beep-Beeps.....he made a good job this time....no parts missing and none of my good tools accidentally taken back to Derbyshire....

My mother-in-law's daughter reversed into neighbour's car across the street.....maybe he's got a point, Webz....just stay in or wear a helmet..or make sure you've got side steps, and park side on.....

Big Kev

After cleaning, apply finish kare fk1000 high temp mold release wax. Lasts about 6 months and brake dust just falls off with water.

I will also look in to the non acid..

I have taken the car back to toyota with bubbling alloys, one very bad it is out of warranty, but i iam getting manufacturer (toyota prestige refurbed)alloys fitted for £307 all in on the T180.

For this reason alone i will never use acid based cleaner on wheels again(even if it wasn`t wonder wheels that caused it)

regards

Autobrite Very Cherry is awfy good, Barra, and even in fairness to mildly acid wheelcleaners....Toyota cocked up on the alloy front by not painting/top coating for the climate the vehicle was destined for....these the comments of a Mr.T operative when 2 of mine were doned only last month.

Would deffo also seal yer new ones with something similar to Joylove's comments above....I now use Jetseal 109 and it works pure dead good.

Big Kev
