Hi,

just bought Yaris from 2008 few days ago. It have keyless entry and keyless engine start/stop.

And while keyless engine start work just fine I'm not succeeding to enter my without pressing button on key fob.

I have this black button on my door handle, and I approach my car with key fob, and I try to open the door with or without pressing the door button but the door just woun't open.

The red light on key transmitter lights when I press door handle button.

What am I doing wrong. Please help me.

Best regards

Don't know if it is the same but the 'keyless entry' on my Lexus works as follows, if you have the car key in your pocket.

To unlock the car doors: - Touch the outside of the door handle, don't touch the black button on the handle or the inside of the handle.

To lock the car doors: - Press the black button on the door handle. (If I also hold the black button pressed it will close all the car windows.)

by pressing the black button all you are doing is relocking the door, try not touching the fob or the black button , the drivers door grab has a sensor behind it that automatically unlocks the door when the handle is grabbed, try it with both fobs to see if any are faulty

once youve drove the car and get out to lock it , again dont touch the fob ! just close the door and press the black pad which will lock the doors , you should hear this activate the locking system

you cant grab the drivers handle to check if its locked as doing this will UNLOCK the door again under the smart entry system

hope this helps , let me know how you get on

Will try this as soon as I come home... but are little bit confused now.

Is the sensor on the outside of the handle or inside?

If it is on inside then I'm screwed and something is not working as it should. I tried this many times (this is how I usually open doors :D).

If it is on outside on the handle close to black button than maybe I have chance that everything is OK.

Update...

I tried now and sad to inform you that this system is not functional.

The car does not want to lock nor unlock on described ways (and I think I tried them all)

Maybe is important to said that car sounds one long beep when I tried to lock it and red light on key fob switches on.... and nothing happening when I tries to unlock the doors. :crybaby:

Any ideas???

A visit to your dealer sounds called for. My Prius works simply by having the fob within 3 feet of the door, put your hand into the handle to open it and the car unlocks.

Hi,

Just an idea but it might be worth changing the Battery in the key fob first before going to the dealer. My Yaris is a 57 reg and when I first had it it used to make a long beep on switching engine off. This turned out to be the Battery in the key fob as after I changed the Battery I've never had any problems since :)

C'mon guys... is that the best you can do???

AS you have only brought the car a few days ago,and having no joy in sorting the problem with the smart entry why not take it back to the dealer for advice.even if it was not brought from a toyota dealer your nearest dealershp would advise you on your problem without charge.

my Auris has smart entry and i keep the fob in my pocket and it opens the locked door when grasping handleand and locks using black button.but now and again for some reason i have to use the open button on the fob.

i suggest you try new batts in both your fobs,at least you will know they are not causing your problems.

disconnecting the cars 12 volt battey is used to cure some of hiccups that occure with ecus just maybe it could help in this case as well,it sounds as if something needs resetting.

John N says his Lexus has the function to close his windows by holding down the close button.my Mondeos had this fucntion which is is very handy say as when you leave the widows open when parked up outside my house on a hot day,you did not need to go outside to close them, just hold the lock button on the fob from indoors.

ive just been out to my garage and tried if this would work on my Auris, but no it does not, trying to do it with the door handle close button or the fob close button.

you may think if this function was available it would say so in the handbook.but my handbook says i can unlock the hatch seperate without needing to unlock the rest the car,but on mine you cant,if i want to open the hatch i have to unlock the the doors first.there is no seperate buton on the hatch as some Auris have.so the handbook cant be relied on for all details of all models.

Agree that I don't think it's the batteries either - I strongly suggest, again, that you visit your local Toyota dealer - it could well be a problem with the sensors in the door - have you tried the passenger door, are you absolutely certain that your car has remote keyless entry? keyless start yes but entry?

Visit your dealer and you could sort this in 5 minutes rather than keep asking the same question on here and getting the same answers!

CR1632 Battery reqd install it + side upwards :D p29 in the handbook

double locking system p39

SETTING THE SYSTEM

1.STOP THE ENGINE

2.HAVE ALL THE PASSENGERS GET OUT THE VEHICLE

3.OPEN AND CLOSE DRIVERS DOOR AND ENSURE ALL OTHERS ARE CLOSED

4.PUSH LOCK ICON SWITCH ON WIRELESS REMOTE CONTROLL FOB TWICE WITHIN 5 SECONDS

THE SYSTEM WILL NOT BE SET UNLESS YOU USE THE WIRELESS REMOTE CONTROL FOB

THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS FLASH ONCE EVERY TIME YOU PRESS THE LOCK BUTTON ON THE FOB

best of luck if all this fails it looks like a visit to the dealerships on the cards :help:

Yes mate. I'm positiv.

I just spoked to the previous owner and he said that batteries needs to be in perfect ordet for this system to work.

So I'm ready to buy new batteries and even to disconnect car Battery for 30 sec. to be sure that I done everithing in my power before to go to dealer.

I'm not against to go to dealer but this complicates things becose I have to leave job for few hours, travel 100 km one way and 100 back pay road taxes..... Geting the picture??? :D

Update:

I bought new batteries, changed them... and nothing. Everything as before.

So the problem was not in remote.

I also disconnected car Battery for a minute and this didn't help also.

There must be something with car coding....

Any other ideas?

Can you at least ring up the dealer?

Also, did they use it when they showed you the car?

When I bought my Yaris from them, they gave a quick 'tour' of the car; How the remote works, where the various release catches and position adjustments etc.

Is there a switch somewhere to arm the system that is off perhaps?

agrees with the above comment , you've tried every avenue so it looks like a trip to the dealers , has the car got any warranty when you bought it , even if it didnt i would argue the case that it wasnt in full working order when you bought it < best of luck and hope you get the issue resolved ASAP

I bought the car from a private person so no possibilities to claim my rights...

I called the service and they told me that I need to come there so at they can reprogram.... car?

I asked them if I can do it somehow alone from home but they told me NO.

So as we said earlier then, a visit to your Toyota Dealer is necessary!
