Please Help - Engine Check Light

Hi All

Has anyone had the similar issues. I have a 2009 1.8 Auris Manual. last night i start the car and heard a loud rattling noise coming from the engine, an a few seconds later the check engine light came on.

So i switched the car off waited for 10 minutes and started it up again (No rattle noise this time) and the check engine light message was still there. So i left the car at the office over night and when i came in this morning, started it (No rattle noise) and the warning message "engine check" is still there. So had the car towed to my local toyota dealership and still waiting for them to get back to me.

Does anyone know what the issue could be? worried about the rattling noise before the warning light came on :crybaby:

Nothing obvious comes to mind...

Did you check the oil level, just with you saying it made the rattling noise ?

Impossible to say really without hearing and seeing first hand.

Be interesting what Toyota report back with.

Could be a mouse or a lizard trapped somewhere under the hood... Happened on my friend's bmw...

Just picked up my car from the dealer and it is all sorted out. Apparently the sensor on the Crank Shaft Pully was dirty.

According to the service advisor the sensor did not pick up the last resting position of my Crank and the valves when i last switched the car off. So on start it sent the wrong signal through which caused the rattle noice

All they did was clean the sensor and re-inserted it. Cleard the error code and the car seems fine. :yahoo:

now my question is, is there any damage to the engine \ valves when the "rattle" noise occured on start up. obviously the sensor sent the wrong position signal which caused the crank to start jolt!!

Thanks for the update...

I'm sure there won't be any damage, all the electronics can do is alter the timing of the fuel injection/spark in relation to engine position.

It's not like there was anything mechanical "out of phase".
