Hand Brake Trouble

Last weekend I started to have a problem with my Yaris's handbrake.

I was putting it on as I've done many times & there was a very loud click sound.

After that the handle felt very loose & would only hold the car when pulled up all the way.

My local independent garage is currently looking at it, & suggested it was a loose or broken cable.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

logic says that this sounds like one of the handbrake cables has snapped, leaving just one still connected at one side.

That would explain why the level feels floppy and needs to be pulled to the full extent of its trave to get the remaining cable to pull on tight.

Any other failure within the handbrake lever assembly would almost certainly leave you without any handbrake at all.

I've had it sorted out, as you mentioned one of the cables had snapped.
