Tyre Width Question.

THe standard tyres fitted to an iQ & just about every other small runabout/city & family vehicle are now ECO type tyres.

Slightly more sporty vehicles might have better performing tyres as far as road grip & traction.

(they even fit them to SUV/4x4's & the famously quoted hybrids.

ECO, Cheap tyres like on Toyotas,

Less tread, narrower, harder compound & actually pretty rubbish long term life.

Just so the vehicle manufacturers can make a few higher MPG claims, & the UK public slide about during the winter.

(& keep the EU happy, but then their countries have winter tyre rules.)

Not that expensive to buy in the first place/replace,

but just cost/calculate out their short life span before some MOT examiner or Tyre Fitter points out you are near the legal limit.

Works out expensive over say 100,000 miles re tyres used to extra mpg acheived.

So enlighten me what are energy saving tyres as aposed to quality one's

David

There made of a harder compound and roll better on the road, thus using less fuel to get moving. Ironically there more expensive.

There found on hybrid cars most of the time.

Cheers

Do they have any particular markings?

Yeah ther have economy splattered all over them.

Thanks George

The tyres that are on the stock wheels that came with the car are Yokohama. Don't know what quality they are although their website shown their tyres on a Lamborgini. So I had them put on my 18's

I assume thats good. Don't know about tyres To be honest I think mine as stock are a bit odd to be on the car. I an assuming they are the originals as it had only done 12,000 when I got it and they show about 2mm of wear.
