Rav4.2 Clearing The Front Headlamps?

My headlamps are pretty misty on the top edge. Anyone have any tips for making them clear again? Is it caused by the sun (which I think can't be repaired) or by friction from airborne particles?

I had a go with plastic cleaner.

With little improvement to note.

I've seen 3M polishing kits igive good results.

Would that work on the RAV or is it sun damage?

Thanks :)

There was a post a while ago that offered some solutions.

http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=126189&st=0&p=1124885&hl=plastic&fromsearch=1entry1124885

This problem is really starting to show on older cars and there is now a wide range of products and solutions out there.

In summary the "haze" is the UV in the Sun attacking/wearing out a special UV protective coating on the headlight. To clear the headlight you effectively polish this off with the appropriate mild abrasive/s.

Without the coating it will require polishing more frequently, using a UV protecting polish will delay this a bit.

When I last looked via Google there were companies offering to refurbish and re-coat headlights but they seemed expensive.
