Rav4 Cruise Control

'morning all.

Following up on a quality tip-off (from "dally") I ordered a Cruise Control switch from the bay of fleas. It was cheap enough to "order first - think later" so I did. It arived yesterday so I am weighing up my options...

I was hoping to ask one of the "considerably better off than me" :) members that have the Cruise Contol built in to do me a favour. Could you please take a wee side-on phoatie of the steering column/wheel where the CC-stalk joins. Basically, I think that the plastic cowling below the airbag/horn cover will need to be cut and I need to see how easy would that be before I decide what to do next.

(Also... any other tips welcomed. :)

Thanks!

I don't have that option or that car, but if it's like a BMW retrofit, a small square needs to be cut from the cowling, and it's usually marked on the back where to cut.

I usually use small side cutters to get a neat corner then finish with a flat file.

Here you go Vlad:

Cut out is approx 32mm top to bottom, 29mm front to back. There seems to be a rubber dust gasket inside the cowling - did one come with the kit?

Thanks everyone.

Many thanks for the photie Dave!

That looks like a very neat cutout. Must be a factory thing (or mr T has a hole-punch in the right shape. Tartan coloured one. Black Stewart, obviously. )

I didn't get a rubber dust seal, but i'm not muchly bothered about that. The two oversized holes for the bolts look like they let as much dust in as you like. :) I may pluck up the courage to take it apart and have a look underneath and see if the marking is there as JL suggested. I just hate fiddling about with airbags.

Thanks.

Hi there. Did you retrofit that criuse control? Is it working? If yes, can you tell us how did you do it? I found a tutorial on how to retrofit CC on toyota avensis. Is it the same on Rav?
