I'm going to upgrade to some nightbreakers and have been looking around on the internet for some prices. If I google them it comes back with bulb specialist shops. On these sites the price ranges from £30 to £40.If I look on eBay they are around £25.My question is,is there a difference between thses bulbs.I've noticed there are older and newer types.Does this explain the price difference.

Many Thanks

Steve.

There is a difference between the nightbreakers on offer these days. There is the ordinary NB and the Nightbreaker PLUS. If you are insistnet on the NB's, then buy them.

However, Phillips have just brought out this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130584071513?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_500wt_715

My son just fitted a pair on Sunday and they are better than the NB Plus that I have. But they all react differently on different cars. I drove in front of my car last week and noticed that the NB's change colour as the carrises and falls in bumps and road changes. This is due to the Auris lenses.

Let us know what you fit and what you find about them.

cheers

I personally tried 2 different upgrade bulbs (Osram and Phillips) and found them both to be better than standard, but still not that good.

I ended up fitting HID kits instead. Not everyone likes them and there are thousands of arguments for and against, but the difference was huge and I would not bother with upgrade bulbs again if I can buy a HID kit for the same price.

Daveyonthemove, can I ask where you got your HID kit from and easy to fit?

Having come from a car which had HID's, im really missing them.

Cheers.

I believe car manufacturers are not allowed to fit HID dipped beams in the UK unless the vehicle has automatic, self-levelling headlights and washers.

I suspect the reason is for road safety;- HID's are far more dazzling to oncoming drivers if they catch their eyes

As for after-market HID kits, they often get fitted to vehicles with fixed (non-levelling) headlights, usually with little regard to the effect on other road users.

I suspect that a keen policeman or MOT engineer may take exception to them in cases where they are badly fitted/adjusted, but is there a potential offence (or MOT failure) here?

I don't know the answer to that one... does anybody here have definitive answers (based on facts, not opinion)?

Tony.

You are correct RE: Auto level and Washers.

An MOT Tester cannot fail your car on the bulb fitted as it is not an MOT testable item. As long as the beams are level and at the right height, and the bulbs are of equal intensity (and white or yellow) then they cannot be failed.

A Police Officer has better things to do than stop people for headlights that they "suspect" to be HIDs. They have to arrange for the car to be collected to be tested and of course whats stopping the owner pulling them out before the car is inspected officially? Add to that the paperwork and only a new officer out to prove himself will bother with anything more than an unofficial rap on the wrists.

Fact is yes they are illegal and the Police can nick you for it, but they simply wont. Unless your lights are above 6500k in colour temperature, and are obviously Blue and illegal, you should be left alone.

The Auris is helped by the fact that it has projector beams, which are normally HIDs, so less obvious.

Good points, may just have to stick to upgrading bulbs.

Trying to figure out if H7 or HB3's?

Seen posts mentioning both.

Will probably have to wait until daylight / weekend to check.
