M.o.t. Headlamp Failiure

Hello fellow Toyota owners,

I seek advice regarding the fact that my 05 Avensis recently failed its M.o.t, due to the Offside headlamp aiming too high and too right....

The vehicle was purchased from my local dealer in Oct 09 and issued with a full service and new M.o.t certificate. This years Test was carried out by the same dealer on the free MOT for life scheme, as it was last year, which it passed.

However this year having not changed, tampered or interfered with it in any way; the unit is suddenly defected.

Is this possible?

The technicians apparently attempted to adjust it for me upon the discovery of this fault, but were unable to do so. But if I were willing, they could replace the entire unit for a total £324.16 inc VAT.

I am sorry but i cant help thinking I am being ripped off. How can a factory fitted part pass one year then fail the next. If it a common problem surely this is a design fault therefore customers should not have to pay for it to be rectified.

Anyone out there with similar problems or advice please post.

When I had my 2005 Avensis 2 years ago, Richard, both headlights were replaced under warranty due to ingress of water / condensation, and this common fault was sometimes allied to or separate from the "Melting Bulb Holder" syndrome, another thing which Toyota admitted to at the time and replaced under extended warranty. I would think you will be well and truly time barred on this by now, hopefully not, but seek out a TSB fix. You more than likely have the melted bulb holder problem which collapses the bulb to point any old direction it settles in.

Besta Luck,

Big Kev

As above, and also those lamps were dead easy to break too, the slightest nudge or somebody reversing into it would crack the lug that holds it to the body

PM me your vehicle details and I will price on for you, reg number will do
