Rav4 Fast (2000Rpm) Idle Speed

Hi Everyone. I'm a new member. I am about to purchase a RAV4 (model 4.2, yr 2000, 2litre 4x4, VVt-1 NRG)that has a fast idle speed (2000rpm). When the trottle is 'blipped' the engine accelerates and then drops back to a normal idle speed but only momentarily. It then rises to 2000rpm again. I've been told it could need a good clean to the throttle body and/or could be an oxygen sensor. Other than that, the car drives really well. Can anyone give me advice as to whether the potential cures outlined above are right, or any other potential causes/solutions?

Regards

Phil

It could also be a vacuum pipe off somewhere - squirt some WD40 around the back while it is idling and see if it revs higher. If so you can home in on the leak. They are a bit erratic when idling though.

BTW, welcome to the club.

Thanks for the replies. Picked the Rav up this afternoon - drives really well (apart from the fast idle!). Will look at sorting the problem this weekend.

Thanks again.
