I am having the rear skirt fitted on Monday by the Toyota main dealer in Portugal, here is their price -

Relativamente ao exposto, informamos que o preço da saia traseira com pintura, montagem e IVA é de 345,3 Eur.

Translated it reads:

For the above, we report that the price of the rear skirt with painting, installation and VAT is 345.3 Eur. (£302.00)

Which compared to UK prices is a bargain.

I payed £180 for my skirt and fitted it myself, I would honestly suggest to you that you should not paint it the same colour as the car, you will notice that most cars with rear skirts are painted mat black and this looks much better. I painted mine with a spray can, good quality hammerite matt black, if you buy the rear skirt unpainted it is already primed and ready for paint to go onto it, as for fitting, it taks about 15 minutes. That's my opinion anyway. You can see the pics of my car which I posted

Thank you for that

I need to see it in more detail because it looks like it would fit mine well. I have a twin output custom exhaust and a normal one has a cut out to the rifgt which would look silly. Will check it out. This may be the solution I am looking for

We made one from a piece of aluminum / sprayed it black.

And used pieces of aluminum angles to pop on the scirt and screw in the plastic of the car body...

Very cheep an does the work...

We had to cut out the towbar / make space for the electric thing / and cut space for the exhaustpipe. Easy.. cause it's thick aluminum.. :-)

Here the raw..

And fitting...

The fitting: PS It´s NOT me smoking!! I do not smoke... this is the maker..

Making room:

End result: We put some rimming (rubber with metal innercore/bendable) on top / material used in Volkswagen door trim.

Some chrome added±

Thanks Peter. Nice work

I'm not sure what to do yet. My twin exhaust vibrates about 1/2 inch so making or buying a skirt would need there to be a fair old gap around it which might not look pleasing to the eye. I might get a piece of ali and cut it to fit around the exhaust with the right amount of gap to see if i like it before making a full one.

You could reinforce the bands that hold the exhaust in place.....

My exhaust I can wobble left to right bij hand and is touches the sides... bur NOT whem I am riding...

Under the car there are plenty of little hooks just for this job... Or you could screw some new ones extra... / drill little hole... rubber-ring end screw it in... NOT in the gas tank... (finally I can use this one... ha ha )

Hi Peter

My exhaust is a heavy lump and moves in all directions about 20mm at idle. It may keep still when driven. Don't know. It has a hanging bracket about 6 inches away from the part you can see sticking out and that is nice and tight. I think its all normal but will have it checked out because after it warms up, It is quite loud and to be honest its getting annoying. Sort of wished I kept the original silencer and just modified the last section. I may even convert back.

Still not sue will make my mind up after the exhaust gets examined

If there any exhaust specialists on here, maybe you can tell me if a full stainless steel exhaust is a lot louder when hot or maybe I have a leak

Nice job Peter. I unfortunately do not have the skills or tools required to do such a job. If I did, I would certainly do it myself.

Can someone tell me, how do you fit the skirt; is it easy? Any drilling/removal of existing bodywork? Do you have to have special tools?

If I could buy one, I would have it sprayed matt black, and then fit it myself. But if it requires a lot of work with existing panel removal etc, then I don't think it is a job I could tackle very easily.

The IQ exhaust is loud and it sounds like there is a hole in it. The only thing you can do is soundproofing the back of the car, as one menber has done and this will make a big diffrence

Oh well, guess the thread has been hijacked to become a discussion on exhausts.... never mind, I'll unsubscribe.

Aluminum is nice and easy... the big trick is to make it from "cardboard" the first time... just for the "fit"... and then saw it out of the aluminum plate...

The metal aluminum hooks, that you put on the aluminum skirt is done with those "pop" things... Do not know the English word for it.

This instrument:

And the aluminum hooks are screwed to the plastic with the use of selfdrilling screws.. They drill there own hole and screw in by itself...

Excuse me?? It wasn't a 'dig' at anyone, but as i don't want to discuss exhausts, and the thread was going that way, I let it be known I was opting out. The thread had been hijacked to discuss exhausts, that's fine, I don't have a problem with it, neither should you.

Nobody Hijacked your Topic. I wasn't sure why you posted it in the first place. You stated that you had enquired how much a skirt would cost from MR T supplied and fitted and implied it was too expensive and you would go without one.

I replied that the base cost was £201 and indicated the labour cost which was high. At this point that was the end of the post. You had made a decision not to buy one based on the cost

Peter (sweet dentist) came in and gave a very detailed description on his alternative at minimum cost.

You came back stating you didn't have the tools nor the skills to manufacture one as per Peters design. So again I saw it as you were not going to pursue acquiring one by this method either.I could see no other choices for you other than biting the bullet and getting one from MR T.

I then started to pointing out to Peter the problems I would have fitting one of his designs to my car as it has a heavy centre exhaust fitted. and he suggested ways to assist the mounting of it to stop it moving about to much.

I made a comment about the stainless exhaust exhaust being loud and questioned if that normal when warmed up.

Peter went on with help about pop riveting etc.

As far as I was concerned, you started the Topic and came to the conclusion the cost of a MR T exhaust was cost prohibited and said you wasn't in a position to fabricate your own.For you that was the and of the thread.

Because the exhaust port on the skirt is the only consideration on the car especially if its modified ,then the natural progression of the thread lends itself toward that subject as they go hand in hand.

The Topic wasn't hijacked (taken by force) it just moved into other considerations when a skirt is fitted.

If you had got from the Topic what you wanted then one would of expected you to move on, not to state it had been highjacked. Hijacking is taking with force and is a deliberate act. None of this happened and was a natural progression with no intent

:group-cuddles:

On forums this is something that happens "all the time"

You start with a subject... it goes to an other close subject... and goes to yet an other close by subject... and then a lot of members are joining it...

But it ends up being VERY interesting...

:group-cuddles: :group-cuddles: :group-cuddles:

It's more or less like "brainstorming" ... one lets one's mind float about......

So ... keep in mind that this happens a lot...

And then someone will shout... "Back on topic!" ha ha :bookworm:

Good show David...

Tx2, I just notice your post having been away for a while.

The skirt comes with all the brackets etc required to fit it.If you have mudflaps you have to cut a bit out of the flaps to give clearance for the skirt, not difficult.

I fitted mine single handed but two people would be better to make sure it is lined up properly.

You just have to take care but it certainly not a job requiring great skill!

You do need an exhaust finisher for it to look right, otherwise there is a recess in the skirt that does nothing.

Sorry about this, not wanting to get off topic or anything but, David, the PDF file for fitting the iQ Skirt. Is there any other format for it? For some reason my PDF reader keeps refusing to open PDF's! It says rather stubbornly: The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is being used can not be used to open a PDF file in a Web Browser. FFS!

What web browser you using? couple of things to try are:- update adobe to latest , this usually fixes registry and paths. or download google chrome and install that and browse with it. this uses a secure search engine similar to sandbox which Apple use in Safari. last resort I may be able to import them into a word document and email them to you. try what I suggested first
