Engine Flush

Hi, As anyone got an opinion on this one,I took my oil burning Avensis for MOT today and although it passed I ask the mechanic advise on the oil burning issues, his very confident reply was to run it for about two months on engine flush! He said it would unblock the rings and do the engine no harm at all. I was a little taken back on his advise so I thought I would ask the Toyota massive if it had any thoughts!!

And while I'm on, he said I would need new pads and disc's front and rear soon,so I'm just wondering if you know a supplier who could sort me out.

Thanks.

ok re spares - you'd better to be in contact with Parts King as an authorized toyota parts trader on the forum.

he offers discount for TOC members. As to opinion of mechanic - I disagree. the problem is with drain holes clogging by an oil slag due overheating of the piston crowns. Cheers/Igor

Hi,

You'd better take your oil burning Avensis to a Toyota dealer and have them check your engine/VIN number against the Toyota "oil burning due to design failure, extended warranty" database.

If there's a match, you'll get a new engine, plus any parts that have been affected by this fault.

There are a couple of prerequisites to this warranty, one of them is a full service history.

And on the MOT's advice I would say: You cannot cure birth defects with an Aspirine.

The only engine flush that is any good in my view is Forte! But its a personal choice to use a flush or not. Some think its well worth it and others think its snake oil and will cause more bad than good. As to the discs and pads... I'd go for the MTEC set up as they are cracking value for money and far better than the Bosch original ones. You can have the discs with drilled and groved (As well as other options) and the black addition that I've got on my T180 that look the biz. If you speak to the lovely Claire you'll porb get a bit of a deal on a set.
