I fear for your safety if you intend to have 2 winter tyres on the front axle (for traction), and leave 2 summer tyres on the back axle!

This is inherently UNSAFE when conditions get very cold and slippery.

Because the front still has some grip, but the back has close to none, so car is fundamentally unstable when braking and cornering.

E.g down hill and cornering or snow/ice, the back end may well try to overtake the front i.e. tail spin, and once it starts, in those conditions, it will be VERY difficult to control.

Try to maintain similarly performing tyres on all 4 wheels - unless you like living on the edge

It's not just me being a wuss. Check all winter tyre manufacturers and (responsible, knowledgeable) suppliers -they all say this.

Me? I just had 4 Kleber Quadraxers fitted (all season tyres, 225/45/17"), so I've "put my money where my mouth is" in this respect.

Here's wishing you good health and a LONG life

The standard Auris steel wheels are 15" and take 195/65 15 tyres, so you won't get them tyres on them

Lorcan,

This is beside the main point of my response, but I'll explain anyway.

I thought it would be easy to figure out...

Check my car model - its an Auris, yes, but there are many models.

Mine is the SR180 model, and it does not have 'standard' 15" wheels, it has 17" wheels as standard fitment.

So that's what I fitted.

Obviously (to most people I would hope), I would expect others to fit the correct size tyres for their particular model.

Yes you can buy wheels and winter tyres from me

HERE

However please DO NOT fit just two wheels and tyres, you must fit them as a set of four, the grip is different and you could end up in trouble. You MUST inform your insurance company when fitting winter tyres, they will not charge you any more, but they will insist you fit a set, NOT two

Kingo

Tony, Lorcan was responding to the OP not you, and is correct in answering the OP's question, so please think of whom other forum users may of been replying to before going into a mad fit of keyboard bashing.

Also, tyres are not specific to model of car, they are specific to the rim they are to be fitted to, and the rim is specific to a fitment. In short the wheel fitment is model specific not the Tyre.

In response to the OP, the winter tyres in question (205/55/16) will not fit the original Auris Rims (although I don't see the OP saying that he has standard rims?), maybe try your local scrap yard? Other rims will fit the Auris however you will have to shop around and may need to buy Spigot rings if the bore size is different.

Good point...

Sorry Lorcan, I mistakenly thought your post was in reply to mine - I now see that it wasn't.

I blame the forum email notifications that I had enabled...

I had 3 emails from the forums yesterday in quick succession, 2 were "xxx quoted a post you made...",

and the other was yours, which said "... replied to Spare Wheels For Auris".

Somehow I managed to confuse them, so in my mind it was yours quoted my post .. Doh!

I was clearly wrong, my mistake, my bad.

I shall now strap explosives to my nethers and detonate it, repeatedely.

Tony.

ps Crasstoe, it's not like you to forget a point even if it is only minor!

Specifically, when fitting wheels from other makes/vehicles it is expedient to check the offset of the wheel.

It needs to be within a range that is compatible with your own vehicle.

Cheers

Nobody is perfect after all, even I forget things ;) Good point about the offset, doesn't matter if the bore size is the same if the Offset is completely wrong!

Re-read my post and apologies if I came across as a grumpty S#it, bad day at work
